⏮️ Throwback days at 2024 Summit at Carnegie Mellon University!! The Portuguese Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, visited Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh for the first time, accompanied by Ana Paiva the Secretary of State for Science, to participate in the 2024 CMU Portugal Summit. Last week, we turned the final page on an incredible journey: The last class of the course in Business Management and Exponential Tech of the last cohort of the EMTM - European Master in Tourism Management I was asked to co-lecture with Lluís Prats Planagumà on this course by one of my mentors, Jaume Guia, over four years ago now and here's what I learned in these years working with the new generations: 1️⃣ Teaching master students as a founder is a huge giveback. My approach has always been "be the professor you had always dreamed of having when you were a student". And yes, student surveys confirmed this was a good call! 2️⃣ Squeezing 30 hours every year into a packed startup schedule was tough, but it forced me to break from my routine and decompress. 3️⃣ A class focused on business and tech meant no recycling old slides—we embraced change and constantly updated the focus of the class. This also made me realize that even if I breathe tech every day, keeping up with the pace is still a challenge. 4️⃣ Every cohort was unique. But I saw a general improvement from pre-covid to post-covid approach to tech. Students are now much more interested and aware of the speed of development and want to be part of it! 5️⃣ Real-life simulations as final assignments made them either love us or hate us. Not everyone is ready to jump into the "figure it by yourself" mode. In the era we live in, content is a commodity and we need to stop lecturing them and telling them what to do. We only need to teach them how to teach themselves autonomously. This is once more a reminder of how important is to make academia more dynamic and tailored to today’s needs. I've learned as much from them as they did from me. Seeing them working on our assigned projects is the best way to detect top talents you may want to work with in the future!

I'm excited to share that over the past 15 months, I've had the incredible opportunity to take courses across several prestigious Swedish universities, acquiring 81.5 ECT credits. My goal was to deepen my understanding of digitalization and automation, preparing myself for the challenges and opportunities of Industry 4.0. My studies included a deep dive into the fundamentals of AI and robotics, exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping industries. I learned about the synergy between humans and AI in decision-making, gaining insights into how collaborative design can enhance outcomes. Complementing these studies, AI for business development, showed how to integrate AI solutions into business strategies.I have also, late but still, learned a lot about cloud migration and cloud-based environments. One of the most exciting courses were on innovation management and trendspotting. I've always had a knack for spotting trends and anticipating developments, but leveraging research in this area has significantly enhanced my analyses. I have also taken introductory courses on sustainable processes, reporting and products and on cybersecurity, while just scratching the surface, they still have been very beneficial when discussing the topics with stakeholders and engineers. Each course has provided me with invaluable insights along with more energy for my role and tasks at NWO. It is difficult to choose a single highlight. However, this summer's course on research frontiers in digitalization was particularly inspiring. We gained insights into the latest research directly from the researchers themselves, with results that are yet to be published and shared with the world—a truly wonderful and precious experience. Armed with all this new knowledge, I am thrilled to be starting the Digital Business Development Master Programme, at Linné University this fall and to continue to applying everything I learn in order to become a better Product Owner.
