"We never thought we’d be making political ads, but when an activist group submitted a ballot measure that would outlaw organic, multigenerational, American Humane Certified family farms based on the number of cows they have, we knew we had to communicate our opposition on our cartons,” said Michael Benedetti, senior director of sustainability, quality and regulatory at Clover Sonoma. Clover Sonoma will always stand by its family farms that uphold the highest standards of quality and animal care in the industry. There is no question - this ballot measure would irreparably damage Sonoma County’s vibrant food system that has helped feed California for generations. A new study from Faunalytics, out today, shows the results of an experiment in which nearly 3,000 U.S. adults were placed in a virtual supermarket and asked to make purchasing decisions like they would in real life. Each of these virtual supermarkets had differing amounts of Certified Humane animal products, “Humanely Raised” products (an effectively meaningless marketing term), and unlabeled products. After the shopping experience, Faunalytics asked the participants what they remembered about the labels and what they thought they meant, as well as calculating how these labels affected their shopping cart choices. Our results can allow animal advocates to better determine how to allocate resources going forward. There is currently much debate surrounding animal welfare certification schemes & a new Faunalytics study concludes - 💡 “Even if all animal products met welfare certification standards, there would continue to be massive amounts of farmed animal suffering" 🙁 "These standards may be slightly preferable to the conditions on factory farms without any animal welfare certifications, but they are not enough" 🌱 "Ultimately, the most effective way to minimize the suffering of farmed animals is to lower demand for animal products. Working to make plant-based products cheaper and more widely available is a key way of achieving this" #animals #animalwelfare #plantbased

The steak of high stakes. Mschf, the art collective known for pushing boundaries, is back with another audacious project that challenges our ethical dilemmas. "Our Cow Angus" forces consumers to confront the consequences of their meat consumption by turning a live calf into a macabre lottery. If enough buyers of Angus' pre-sold meat products choose to "save" him, he'll be spared from the slaughterhouse. Otherwise, well, you can guess the rest. This twisted social experiment highlights the disconnect between our guilt over environmental destruction and our insatiable appetite for its products. We're all too willing to point fingers at corporations and governments, but what about the individual choices we make every day? By gamifying Angus' fate, Mschf forces us to examine the true cost of our consumption. The project also exposes the hypocrisy within activist movements. Will those who preach about animal rights be willing to put their money where their mouths are, even if it means participating in the very system they condemn? Or will they let their principles take a backseat to their desire for a unique collectible? Mschf isn't offering any easy answers. Instead, they're creating a microcosm of the larger moral dilemma we face: can we save the planet without sacrificing our own comforts? The outcome of this "experiment" remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: it's sure to spark a heated debate. #OurCowAngus #EthicalDilemmas #MeatConsumption #EnvironmentalImpact #Activism #SocialExperiment #Mschf

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is damaging herself by what can only be seen as self-delusion. Her recent book has gained attention for two anecdotes; one involving her shooting her farm dog (or puppy, depending on how you define a dog who is 14 months old), and one where she stared down Kim Jong Un. Her dog story was at least straightforward - she said that the dog was incorrigible and had to be put down to defend her livestock from attack. She could have addressed criticism simply by pointing out that sort of thing happens on farms, which was her initial response. She later suggested that she had tried to train the dog, something that doesn't appear in her book where she made it clear she hated the dog and had determined that it couldn't be (and implicitly hadn't been) trained in such a way to quell aggression. If Noem had simply left the dog's demise as a fact of farm life, the issue would have simmered briefly before dissipating. The backpedaling draws attention to itself and exposes fault lines in her approach to the truth. Her Kim Jong Un anecdote shows those fault lines to be part of her overall structure rather than the result of a too-much-information recounting of farm life. We don't know if Noem actually did or did not meet Kim. She has removed the section from the next edition of her book and will neither confirm there was an error nor explain the circumstances in which the meeting took place. She's taken a third path which is simply to acknowledge the removal and to drop the subject entirely with "I’ve met with many world leaders. There are many that I’ve met with who are in this book, there are many that I’ve met with who are not in this book, and this is an anecdote that I’ve asked to be removed because I don’t think it’s appropriate at this time.” There's no clean way out of this for Noem. She either looks like somebody who has revealed a classified meeting, or lied about that meeting entirely. She had the option of saying she'd been mistaken in whom she'd met, or that she'd been asked not to discuss her contacts. In an effort to avoid revealing a mistake, she's willingly created a mystery. If she has advisors, she's ignoring them or they're incompetent. In either scenario, Noem has nobody to blame but herself. https://lnkd.in/gKG2-n3k

Earlier this month Farm Forward published an extensive investigation into Alexandre Family Farm, a leading Organic dairy company sold by retailers like Whole Foods Market. The investigation found disturbing, and ongoing, animal abuse extending over nearly five years and numerous potential violations of California water quality laws. The picture that emerges is of a company marketing itself as "humane" and "climate friendly" while they put profits over animal welfare and environmental protection. As Earth Week comes to close, it's incredibly troubling to see the way that dozens of companies, including brands like Alec's Ice Cream, Cheddies, and Once Upon a Farm are marketing themselves a "climate friendly" based on their relationships with Alexandre. We must do more to ensure that climate, sustainability, and animal welfare claims aren't #humanewashing and #greenwashing and hold companies accountable for truth in marketing. Read more in the Atlantic and follow our investigation. https://lnkd.in/gsPBCS2Q https://lnkd.in/gDVRbwku

This is hard. We’ve been lying to you—& ourselves—for some time. We hope you can forgive us. The truth is, we haven’t been eating our dog meat for almost a year now. In fact, we haven’t been eating meat at all. This is probably not the place or time to take you on our Ulcerative Colitis Journey, or to tell you how it awakened us to the senseless forcible breeding & slaughter of innocent puppies. (Check out the blog for that) We’ve tried living with the hypocrisy—raising dog meat we no longer consume—but it’s just too hard. Forgive us. As of today, our farm is closed for business. We’ll run down our frozen stock locally if you want to stop by, but we’re not shipping anymore. This isn't the end of the line. It’s the start of a new chapter—one free of animals. We hope you’ll stick around to see what happens next. Thanks for all your support over the years. xoxoxoxoxo, Elwoods To learn more, please read the blog: https://lnkd.in/ebQR3ud4 #local #newleaf #vegan #plantbased #eyesopen #beautifulchallenge #openhearts #bekind #newvegan #farmlife #farmwife #farmwifeclub #organic #bethechange #endoftheline #business #bigchanges #midlifecrisis #forthebetter #fortheanimals #elwooddogmeat

The $20 Million Rebrand: Updating a Legacy Brand 📈 In 2015, animal advocacy group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) found itself fading into cultural irrelevance after 35 years. Despite growing competition in the space, PETA remained committed to renewing their brand to advance their mission in a new era. So they invested $20 million into a complete visual transformation - updating their bold, attention-grabbing communication style for modern audiences. 🐮 Out went the blood-soaked shock tactics, and in came punchy veggie burger graphics proclaiming “Meat is So Yesterday”. Their innovative vegan clothing line also grabbed youth interest.😋 👚 Most importantly, PETA doubled down on spreading positivity and optimism about a changing world where animal welfare matters more every day.🌱 The massive investment into re-energizing PETA paid dividends through rejuvenated membership and brand awareness - empowering them to keep advocating for animals for decades to come. 🐶 Key lessons for aging but mission-driven brands: ✅ Know when an update is needed 🦋 Be willing to transform while retaining purpose 🌟 Invest to contemporize your message At Communik, we specialize in legacy brand revitalization and refresh - grounded in heart while evolving expressively for today. 💫 If you feel your established brand needs re-inspiration without losing sight of why you started, let’s talk! 🌟 **Exploring Ethical Choices in Food Production** 🌟 Today, I came across Elwood's Organic Dog Meat, a thought-provoking initiative that challenges our perceptions of food animals. Their approach to raising dogs for meat, while controversial, highlights important ethical considerations in the food industry. At Elwood's, dogs are raised with care, following USDA guidelines, and are offered organic, soy-free feed. The farm emphasises sustainability and humane treatment, ensuring that their dogs live in green pastures during the summer months. This initiative raises a crucial question: Why do we differentiate between dogs and other animals like cows, pigs, and chickens when it comes to food? Elwood's aims to make us reflect on our food choices and consider the ethical implications of consuming any animal. If you're passionate about animal welfare and sustainability, I encourage you to explore Elwood's Organic Dog Meat and join the conversation about creating a more compassionate world. their link is https://lnkd.in/erAJtZRH of course the website is a joke, but it gets you thinking.
