Better Safe than Sorry, Abandoning a race, a big project, a life goal, something you and a team have worked for very hard is extremely tough. Read our Teams story about the Middle Sea Race. #bolsius #deltahotelvlaardingen #hollandoceanracing #leadershipwithlegacy #traineedevelopment #teambouscholtebolsius #oceanracing
The team has safely returned to Malta! 🌊⚡ Unfortunately, we had to make the tough decision to withdraw from the race due to safety concerns. Read the story below ⬇️ Saturday marked the highly anticipated start of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. The team was excited, and spirits were high as we set off. Despite some tactical challenges at the start, we managed to overcome them successfully. As we settled into the race, we were sailing downwind with the A3 gennaker, focused and moving faster than our target speed. Around 4:30 PM, we spotted large storm clouds in the distance, with three tornadic sprouts forming. We quickly alerted the off-watch crew to be prepared to drop the gennaker if needed. Soon, the clouds closed in around us, and more tornado sprouts began forming. We successfully dropped the A3 and hoisted jib, in time, around 5:00 PM. However, in a matter of seconds, the wind surged from 8/10 knots to over 35 knots, accompanied by heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning surrounding us. We reefed the main and switched jibs, which we eventually dropped to ride out the storm under the main alone. Throughout the storm, we continuously monitored the weather models, but the pressure system couldn’t be identified, leaving us uncertain about the duration of the storm. We received multiple man overboard (MOB) signals from boats around us, along with distress calls from a vessel with a broken mast and another that had lost steering. When safety aboard our own boat came into question, and with more thunderstorms forecasted in the coming days, we made the difficult decision to turn back. It was an extremely hard choice, as we had looked forward to this race for so long, but ultimately, it was the right call. We are grateful that the entire team made it back to port safely.🙏 Yesterday, we held a full team debrief to reflect on the race. We're more motivated than ever to improve, train harder, and ensure we're fully prepared for the next big challenge. Our first step is a training sailing around Malta on Tuesday, where we’ll focus on teamwork and refining everyone’s individual roles. We are looking back at three successful deliveries from Breskens of a total of 2750 nm, which is the same distance as a transatlantic. Through extremely challenging conditions, we proved that we can work as a streamlined team and bring the boat fast and safely to Malta. We are proud of our team for all the hard work and dedication. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our sponsors, firstly Bolsius (B Corp) and secondly Delta Hotel Vlaardingen, for their support. Finally, a big thanks to Hans, the skippers for the deliveries, and the other people behind the scenes who have worked incredibly hard for making this whole adventure possible. This experience has only strengthened our resolve, and we are eager to come back stronger for the next race. Thank you for believing in us and standing by our side!

👉 Great sailing ships return to the Baltic Sea ===================> One month from now, on 27 June 2024, the next edition of the regatta involving the largest sailing ships in the world - The Tall Ships Races - will begin. After 7 years, the "Birds of the Ocean" are returning to the Baltic to sail across almost our entire sea. ⚓ The route leads from #Klaipeda to #Helsinki, from there to #Tallinn, then #Turku, #Mariehamn in the #Åland Islands and the longest leg with the grand finale in #Szczecin, which will take place on 2-5 August 2024. ⚓ Although the full list of entered vessels has not yet been announced, it is difficult to expect that the two great Russian sailing ships - "Kruzenshtern" and "Sedov" - which have always been the highlight of this regatta, to take part in this year's event. ⚓ This will be the 5-th time that The Tall Ships Races finale has taken place in Szczecin. Previously, we hosted the event's finale in 2007, 2013, 2015 and 2017. The next final was due to fall in 2021, but was moved to this year due to Covid. ⚓ It is noteworthy that all finals in Szczecin had the highest attendance of all ports at the same time - the last final, in 2017, was attended by around 2 million visitors! The harbour in Szczecin is almost made for such events - the picturesque Wały Chrobrego and Łasztownia Island create a unique, nautical atmosphere. #TallShipsRaces #BalticSea #Poland #Scandinavia https://lnkd.in/e9fu6qG6 👇 The Tall Ships Races 2013 - final in Szczecin

The Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca was a whirlwind of learning and growth, both on and off the water. As sailors, we faced a constantly shifting playing field – variable winds demanding continuous adaptation of our racing style and strategy. This experience resonated deeply with the dynamic business world. Just like in sailing, success hinges on our ability to: 💡Read the Currents: Anticipate and adapt to changing market conditions. 💡Refine Our Course: Adjust strategies to maintain a competitive edge. 💡Embrace Continuous Learning: Seek new knowledge to optimize performance. The insights gained from competing amongst the world's best sailors will be invaluable as I navigate the rest of the sailing season, and beyond, into the ever-changing waters of business. #PrincessSofiaTrophy #Sailing #BusinessLessons #Adaptability #Strategy #ContinuousLearning
Carlos Silva on Instagram: "Thrilling week at the Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca! The wind conditions kept us on our toes, forcing us to adapt and explore different racing styles. This event was a true eye-opener, showcasing the incredible talent competing at the highest level of sailing. So grateful for the experience and all the learnings I can take with me for the rest of the season

INCOMING STEREOTYPE! Apologies in advance to anyone I offend. River boating through Europe is for very old people. Floating through Central Europe and soaking up all the history, castles, cobblestone streets, and multiple cultures over the course of 7-10 days is for very old people. I'm not exactly sure how this came to be, but river boating is, indeed, a stereotype associated with grandparents, those long since retired, and the like. UNLESS...you privately charter a 150-person river boat, anchor the theme with fitness, and put whoever you choose on it! You see, that breaks the mold. At #Race2Adventure, we did that in 2021 on the Danube, are about to do it again in June 2024 on the Rhine, and in 2026, we're cruising through France via Burgundy, Provence, and down into the French Riviera on the Rhone. If you want to see what happens when we take over a Uniworld River Boat...just click on the video here. You'll see it's incredibly atypical of what you might normally expect on one of these amazing vessels in Europe. https://lnkd.in/ggNRPSGF
