An interesting read 💡 We need more women in environmental policy decision-making and implementation, including in leading roles! ♀ 🦆 🐞 🌿 Not only this helps reduce women poverty and violence... ...But it has a positive impact on the whole ecosystem! Studies show that countries with more women representatives adopt greener policies 💚 corporate with more women leaders implement more environment-friendly action while keeping profits 🌻 and women can also more effectively de-escalate conflict over land and other natural resources 🌳 Women's impact is important also on climate policy 🌞 and ocean protection 🌊 https://lnkd.in/gZkptsHe

As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, we highlight the vital role of women in shaping societies and combating #climatechange. We encourage women’s participation in dialogue activities and decision-making processes. This way, we ensure that women are presented in and actively engage in our project activities - paving the way for more #sustainable and #inclusive impact. The challenges women face because of climate-induced hazards are frequently overlooked. To drive sustainable solutions, women must be actively integrated into decision-making processes. As part of our broader support of climate change mitigation and peace, we brought together over 40 civil society organisations and women activists to address the impact of climate change focusing on various social dimensions. Together, the participants discussed and developed strategies to mitigate climate change effectively. Another area in which women are often underrepresented is local governance. #Waterscarcity, limited public services and a lack of infrastructure tremendously affect women’s lives. That is why, together with Oxfam, we have supported public dialogues in finding solutions in Diyala and Ninewa. Offering safe spaces and raising awareness among men on why women’s voices count, women have increasingly participated and actively contributed their perspectives. One great success: After raising concerns about the dark streets which might negatively affect security at night, especially for women, local authorities set up streetlights – a benefit for everyone. #InvestInWomen #InternationalWomensDay #8March

Women and youth #CSOs play a key role in the acceleration and achievement 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. Representatives from women and youth mentioned on the 2nd day of the meeting said that "Building the capacity of local Civil Society Organizations (#CSO) is very important/should be next step to accelerate/achieve Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs), particularly the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063." The awareness of women and youth CSOs on the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063, which is a plan of action to reinforce the five critical Sustainable Development Goals (no poverty, zero hunger, climate action, peace, justice, and strong institutions, partnership for the goals) is low. Therefore, they should be part of the implementation, should be sensitized, and be part of the solution to ensure the principle of leaving no one behind during the implementation. This complements a pressing point raised by one of the keynote speakers yesterday. She said we have to question ourselves "What do SDGs mean for 44 million people displaced? 1/2nd of African women experience abuse? 600 people (men and women who do have no access to electricity? 1/3rd of women cooking firewood? What are their pathways to the SDG journey?" To do this, engagement of CSOs, enhancement of institutional competence, and attention to energy (solar and mini-grids) are mentioned as future solutions to accelerate and achievement of the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. Transformation and modernization of statistical systems (data generation systems) ensure indicators are disaggregated by age and sex, and the development of indicators involves women and youth. Key takeaways from today's Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development at UN. "Africa needs to put great effort for reversing the current climate trend/ achieve #SDG13-Climate Action." It was also indicated that Africa needs to accelerate progress to achieve set targets on #SDG1 (No Poverty), #SDG2 (Zero hunger), and #SDG17 Partnerships for the goals of the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063). The performance of SDG 13 (Climate Action), is below the requirement, and this is due to climate finance issues. #Women and #gender performance of each SDG was not adequately reported. It is crucial to engage Civil Society Organizations like African Women in Water and Climate for continued advocacy and lobbying tasks to integrate it into the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development is an annual intergovernmental and multi-stakeholder platform mandated by the #AU General Assembly to follow up on the progress of the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063 is a plan of action to reinforce five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are #SDGGOAL1-No poverty; #SDGGOAL2-Zerohunger; #SDGGOAL13-Climateaction; #SDGGOAL16-Peacejusticeandstronginstitutions #SDGGOAL17-Partnershipsforthegoalsofthe2030AgendaandAgenda2063

Happy #internationalwomensday2024 to all the great #women! This year the #unitednations has identified five key areas needing joint action: 🔸 Investing in women, a human rights issue: Time is running out. Gender equality is the greatest human rights challenge, benefiting everyone. 🔸 Ending poverty: Due to the COVID pandemic and conflicts, 75 million more people have fallen into severe poverty since 2020. Immediate action is crucial to prevent over 342 million women and girls living in poverty by 2030. 🔸 Implementing gender-responsive financing: Conflicts and rising prices may lead 75% of countries to cut public spending by 2025, negatively impacting women and their essential services. 🔸 Shifting to a green economy and care society: The current economic system disproportionately affects women. Advocates propose a shift to a green economy and care society to amplify women's voices. 🔸 Supporting feminist change-makers: Despite leading efforts, feminist organizations receive only 0.13% of official development assistance. This International Women’s Day, let’s unite to transform challenges into opportunities and shape a better future for all! https://lnkd.in/eD8edjQY #InvestInWomen
