The crazy project of a hydrogen-powered tower in the middle of Egypt According to Reuters, a Saudi-controlled property business is planning to launch a 50-storey hydrogen-powered office tower early next year. It will be located in the new capital that Egypt is building up, 50 km away from Cairo. In the middle of desert, Egypt is building a new capital. This $60 billion project is a priority for President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, who dreams of a ‘new Dubai’. Designed to accommodate 6 million inhabitants, the city has been under construction since 2016 and aims to become the new capital, replacing Cairo. But for now, it is known as Sissi City. Destined to host some very ambitious projects, the future capital will be home to a billion-dollar tower over 50 storeys high from next year. It is expected to be the first tower of its kind as it will be powered by clean hydrogen. A feature that fits in well with the country’s ambition to become a hydrogen hub in Africa. To be more precise, hydrogen will supply 75% of energy needs, as mentioned in this article. The project is being carried out by Magnom Properties, a subsidiary of the Saudi industrial group Rawabi Holding. The company is counting on an international clientele. Magnom will soon begin the detailed design of the Forbes International Tower*. The aim is to complete the building by 2030, according to Karim Dayhoum, the company’s Executive Director of Projects. https://lnkd.in/dbwU4f8k

The Line: The Vertical Dream Devours 20% of the World's Steel The Line, the beating heart of Neom, is single-handedly devouring a fifth of the world’s steel: Saudi ambition defies all limits. Saudi Arabia is rewriting the rules of urban planning, and it’s doing it with a voracious appetite for steel. The Line, linear city which extends for 170 kilometers in the desert, is consuming 20% of the world's production of this metal. It's a dizzying figure, especially when you consider that this project alone exceeds the consumption of the entire American industry.

🚧 Another major milestone for Snowy 2.0! 🚧 At our Marica site in the Snowy Mountains of NSW, the headrace tunnel surge shaft has reached the 100m mark. This shaft plays a vital role in the project on the 17km-long, 10m diameter tunnel from the Tantangara intake. The surge shaft, which is now at 101m deep, will have two key purposes for Snowy 2.0: 💧it will provide water storage and vacuum relief when the power station starts up, and ⚙️ it will also absorb the momentum of water movement within the headrace tunnel when the power station shuts down. When it is fully excavated, this 28-metre wide shaft will be more than 250 metres deep, making it one the largest diameter operational shafts in the world! #snowyhydro #snowy2 #projectupdate #construction #excavation #tunnelling

Despite its striking beauty, especially when illuminated at night, the Maputo-Katembe Bridge has fallen short of contributing significantly to Mozambique’s broader development goals. To this day, the exact cost of the project remains undisclosed, but it is estimated to have cost around $700 million, with more than half of that potentially linked to corruption. Initial plans had suggested that a more cost-effective bridge could have been built from the opposite side of the river at an approximate cost of $100 million. Moreover, the tall toll gate imposes prohibitive fees for local citizens, further limiting access. The bridge has also intensified inequality across the country, where much-needed infrastructure in other regions remains neglected. For instance, the national road linking southern to northern Mozambique is largely impassable, particularly in the central provinces of Sofala, Manica, and Zambezia. As a result, agricultural production from northern and central Mozambique struggles to reach southern markets due to inadequate or nonexistent road infrastructure. Yet, instead of addressing these fundamental needs, the government has chosen to contract loans for grandiose projects like the Maputo-Katembe Bridge. This discrepancy underscores the misalignment of development priorities in Mozambique, where critical investments in national infrastructure should take precedence over extravagant but underutilized projects. Africa’s longest suspension bridge 🇲🇿 Mozambique’s national masterplan includes a vital road connecting Maputo to South Africa via Kosi Bay. The highlight is the Maputo-Katembe Bridge, opened in November 2018, which is the longest suspension bridge in Africa. Designed and executed by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and verified by GAUFF GmbH & Co. Engineering KG, this project marks the first major bridge completed by a Chinese company outside Asia. The bridge stands 60 meters above the bay, with pylons reaching 137 and 138 meters high, and spans 680 meters. Its southern viaduct is 1,234 meters long, while the northern viaduct, built using the cantilever method, extends 1,097 meters. This landmark project has garnered global attention and signifies a major step forward in regional connectivity and engineering excellence. #mozambique #maputo #casamozambique

Saudi Crown Prince MBS received a rude shock as Neom City canceled a project for the first time. A mammoth $1.5 billion desalination plant, which was to deliver 30% of the water for the gigaproject, has been axed, making it clear that the scaling back rumors are true. Neom City, Saudi Arabia’s $1.5 trillion example of futuristic and sustainable living, is changing its colors more than a chameleon. While it is an established fact that the megaprojects will be developed in phases, as seen with The Line, the latest development hints there may be some truth to the scaling back of Neom City. The cancellation of the $1.5bn desalination plant project has left the joint development agreement (JDA) between Neom’s Enowa, Japan’s Itochu, and France’s Veolia null and void. This project was aimed at delivering up to 2 million cubic meters a day of desalinated water to Neom, equivalent to about 30% of the gigaproject’s expected total water demand once complete. The developer team shared earlier that the target operation date for the project’s first phase was 2025, with a capacity of 500,000 cm/d. Clearly, the project is nowhere near completion, including its phase one, which is now set to be completed by 2030. In a statement sent to Meed, Enowa said Neom’s water requirements have evolved over the last year, “leading us to adopt a stepwise approach to expanding capacity. As a result, we’ve decided to discontinue our joint development agreement (JDA) for this project. This decision was made after open communication and extensive discussions to ensure mutual understanding and commitment. Our dedication to delivering sustainable and innovative solutions remains unchanged, and we value our collaboration with international partners as we adjust our approach to best serve Neom’s long-term goals.”
