💭 Are We Hiring for Skills or Potential? Let’s Discuss. Recruitment is changing. With AI, automation, and shifting job markets, the perfect CV doesn’t always mean the perfect fit. Here’s a thought: Are we focusing too much on qualifications and experience, and missing out on real potential? Think about it: Someone with years of experience might not have the drive to adapt and grow. A candidate without “traditional” qualifications could bring fresh ideas and new perspectives. Maybe it’s time to prioritise attitude, adaptability, and passion over ticking boxes on a CV. What do you think? Are skills more important than potential, or should we be rethinking how we hire? I've been thinking a lot about why there are so many open positions for work and still so many unemployed individuals. The handful of people I've spoken to say, they're unaware of certain positions or companies and some say they're sometimes tested/screened by AI which isn't easy to impress, the reasons are endless But what is the best solution to this problem? Screening resumes with AI saves time, but sometimes the resume isn't always the best display of someone's abilities. So what is the best way to ensure candidates are matched on more than just their resume but on skill and personality? #jobsearch #talentacquisition #unemployment #careertips

Humanising Candidates. One of the first things that I learnt as a recruiter was to look beyond a person’s job application and where possible have an in-depth conversation with them. This was not always possible given that we received 100s of applications for certain roles. A conversation that stood out for me was with a gentleman in his 40s then who was made redundant in the semiconductor industry that he worked. “I am the sole financial breadwinner and have 3 young children. I keep applying for jobs but no one is willing to give me a chance. “ Perhaps this explained why we saw his application for every single role that we advertised even if they were completely unrelated to his background and experience. At first we had updated him and then when we kept receiving numerous applications from him for different roles; I have to admit we found it hard to keep track of his applications and update him. In the frenzy of being a recruiter with sales targets to achieve and working in a dynamic environment; I realised that me ghosting candidates and ignoring them was going against my moral grain of empathy. Behind every job applications lies an actual human being with a story. While AI and ChatBots exist to streamline processes; nothing can beat an authentic human connection that is based on building trust and empathy. Humanising job applicants starts with building more inclusive hiring practices: 🌟 Begin with a clear focus on the role and what it requires. Avoid terms like “young and energetic” “ senior” “specifying languages without the reason for the requirement etc. “ 🌟 Be open that there is no such thing as a 100% perfect fit to the role. The ideal candidate probably does not exist and it is more important to look into holistic factors rather than simply a cultural fit. 🌟 Have a recruiter actively working on the role to screen and call candidates who are a potential fit and shortlisted. Have another person perhaps a recruiting aide call up those who are not shortlisted with an update on why their application is not moving forward. How do you humanise relationships at work and in the hiring process? 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻 If you like posts like this related to personal growth, career strategies, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; please feel free to follow me or send me a connection request https://lnkd.in/gU3ChySU #lbfalumni #skyhightower #inclusivehiring

Skills-based hiring represents a departure from the traditional resume-centric approach by placing the spotlight on a candidate’s skills, competencies, and capabilities. Rather than solely relying on past job titles or educational qualifications, this approach focuses on identifying the specific skills required to excel in a particular role and assessing candidates based on their proficiency in those areas. Here’s why skills-based hiring is gaining momentum: Alignment with Role Requirements: By identifying and prioritizing the skills essential for success in a role, skills-based hiring ensures that candidates are evaluated based on their ability to perform specific tasks rather than their job history alone. Focus on Potential: Skills-based hiring allows recruiters to assess candidates based on their potential to succeed in a role, irrespective of their background or prior job titles. This approach opens doors for individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Dynamic Evaluation: Unlike static resumes, skills-based assessments provide a more dynamic and accurate portrayal of a candidate’s abilities. Through practical assessments, simulations, or project-based evaluations, recruiters can gauge candidates’ skills in real-world scenarios. Reduced Bias: By shifting the focus from credentials to competencies, skills-based hiring helps mitigate biases related to factors such as educational background, gender, ethnicity, or age. This promotes greater diversity and inclusivity in the hiring process. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dYgyz5XJ #skills #hiring #resume #interviewing #AI
