As we prepare for the most American of holidays, I'm recalling President Franklin D. Roosevelt's words from his 1944 Thanksgiving Proclamation. "For the preservation of our way of life from the threat of destruction; for the unity of spirit which has kept our Nation strong; for our abiding faith in freedom; and for the promise of an enduring peace, we should lift up our hearts in Thanksgiving." Let us follow his words this year and lift up our hearts in Thanksgiving for our Nation and for each other. Happy Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for you all!

Some Wise Words to Reflect Upon: Winston Churchill Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), 32nd President of the United States. Two of the greatest statesmen who ever lived, certainly without equal in the 20th century. Currently, I am reading a biography about the personal friendship and professional relationship enjoyed by these two great statesmen, funnily enough entitled Franklin & Winston, which is best described as an intimate portrait of an epic friendship. As you may imagine, there are many wise words and sadly too many similarities in the book that relate equally to the debate and actions surrounding today's world crisis, as it did in the dark days of WW2. So much so, I was struck by the following words spoken to Franklin and felt compelled to share, because they are, I believe very special, relatable and completely relevant to us as citizens in the world of 2024. Roosevelt adopted the thinking as set out below in his attitude toward life. Equally, Churchill embodied the same values in spades. "We will not say much of the wretchedness of doubt. To believe is to be strong. Doubt cramps energy. Belief is power. Only so far as a man believes strongly, mightily, can he act cheerfully, or do anything that is worth doing." * * Attributed to the Rev Frederick. W. Robertson For those of you who may be interested, this wonderful bronze sculpture of Franklin & Winston is located in Bond Street, London. #winstonchurchill #roosevelt #fdr #churchill #winston #thefourfreedoms #ww2 #usa #unitedkingdom #freedom #democracy #catherinecarter #andrewroberts #martingilbert #jonmeacham

The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life. --Theodore Roosevelt

Echoes of Peace Throughout the history, amidst the tumultuous echoes of conflict, there have always been voices of peace – resilient, unwavering, and timeless. These luminaries, from all corners of the globe and across epochs, have made a book of compassion and understanding that transcends the barriers of time. Their messages, though spoken in different tongues and in varied contexts, resonate with a universal truth: that peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice, empathy, and reconciliation. From the teachings of ancient philosophers to the impassioned pleas of modern activists, the voices of peace have reverberated through generations, reminding us of our shared humanity and the imperative of cooperation. Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolence, Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of equality, and Mother Teresa's acts of compassion are just a few examples, inspiring generations to strive for a world where conflict is resolved through dialogue, not destruction. Through the lens of history, we glimpse the profound impact of these leaders and changemakers, whose courage and conviction continue to shape our consciousness. Their legacies serve guiding us towards a future where peace is not only conceivable but achievable. #EchoesOfPeace #HistoricalHarmony #LegacyOfCompassion #PeaceLeadership #ChangemakersUnite #InspiredByHistory #CDFR #UnityInDiversity #PeacefulFutures #ResonatingHarmony

GOD TAKES US AS WE ARE -- RIGHT WERE WE ARE PLACED "No work is insignificant, said Martin Luther King Jr., "All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” Consider this, -- throughout the Bible, nearly every person had a job in the marketplace. Daniel was a government leader, Abraham owned land, Lydia was a businesswoman selling purple fabric, David served in the military, and Paul was a tentmaker running a small business. The truth is: you don’t have to become a pastor or missionary to be used by God. God uses us right where we are—in our everyday work, our businesses, and our communities. In fact, our jobs may be exactly where God needs us most. As Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Whether you’re leading a team, running a business, or serving clients, your work can have eternal value. Your work is your mission field. Let’s commit to serving God with excellence in whatever role He’s placed us in today. Do you agree? #FaithAndWork #MarketplaceMinistry #BiblicalLeadership #PurposeInWork #KingdomImpact

Blessed Journey: A Walk Through The Beatitudes Day 4: Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness, and how can this pursuit lead to fulfillment? Matthew 5:6 - "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." To hunger and thirst for righteousness means having a deep, relentless desire to live according to God's will. It's a passionate pursuit of justice, integrity, and moral uprightness. Those who seek righteousness with such intensity will find their spiritual cravings satisfied by God. Martin Luther King Jr. exemplified this Beatitude through his tireless fight for civil rights. His deep hunger for justice and equality drove him to lead a non-violent movement that changed the course of history. King’s unwavering commitment to righteousness was eventually rewarded, as his efforts paved the way for significant societal changes. King’s story illustrates how a profound desire for righteousness can inspire transformative action. His hunger and thirst for justice were not just personal aspirations but a reflection of God's call for righteousness in society. King’s life teaches us that true fulfillment comes from aligning our desires with God's will and working tirelessly to see His justice realized on earth. As we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we are called to actively pursue what is right and just in our daily lives. This pursuit brings us closer to God's heart and His promises. We find true satisfaction not in worldly success, but in living a life that honors Him. Let your desire for righteousness fuel your actions and decisions. Trust that God will fill your life with His presence and blessings as you seek to do His will. #UnhinderedFaith #BlessedJourney #Beatitudes #HungerForRighteousness #ThirstForJustice #Faith #Integrity #UnhinderedFaiths #MotivationalMonday #MartinLutherKingJr #Inspiration #SpiritualGrowth #ChristianLiving #PursuitOfGodsWill #FaithJourney #GodsPromises

🗣️ On April 10, 1899, Theodore Roosevelt delivered his iconic speech, "The Strenuous Life," in Chicago, Illinois, igniting a call to action that resonates with us to this day. 🌟 Given at the Hamilton Club in Chicago, "The Strenuous Life" speech encapsulated Roosevelt's philosophy of embracing challenges and pursuing a life of vigorous effort and moral integrity. At the time, America was experiencing rapid industrialization and urbanization, leading to concerns about the decline of traditional values and the rise of materialism. Roosevelt's speech aimed to inspire Americans to reject complacency and embrace the virtues of hard work, perseverance, and civic duty. In his own words, Roosevelt proclaimed: 👉 "I wish to preach, not the doctrine of ignoble ease, but the doctrine of the strenuous life, the life of toil and effort, of labor and strife." 👉 "We do not admire the man of timid peace. We admire the man who embodies victorious effort; the man who never wrongs his neighbor, who is prompt to help a friend, but who has those virile qualities necessary to win in the stern strife of actual life." Roosevelt's speech struck a chord with the American public, inspiring a generation to embrace challenges and pursue excellence in all aspects of life. His message of resilience, perseverance, and moral courage continues to inspire individuals to overcome adversity and make a positive impact on society. As we reflect on Roosevelt's timeless words, let's recommit ourselves to living "The Strenuous Life" and striving for excellence in everything we do.
