I'm very pleased to share that today, Ahold Delhaize announced that it has signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) to support our sustainability ambitions with the financing and construction of a cluster of five solar power plants in Seville, Spain with BRUC. This is a significant step forward in our European Renewable Energy Program, in which the European brands are united in enhancing energy efficiency, generating our own green energy and sourcing green energy. The program is a collaboration between our technical departments, as well as our Health & Sustainability, Not-for-Resale Sourcing and Finance departments. A big thanks to the teams for their hard work! See the full details below. #AholdDelhaize #RenewableEnergy
Today, we are pleased to announce that Ahold Delhaize has signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with the Spanish renewable energy company BRUC to support the financing and construction of a cluster of five solar power plants in Seville, Spain. This corresponds to approximately 30% of Ahold Delhaize’s total electricity usage in its European operations. This project is an important step within Ahold Delhaize’s Renewable Energy Program and contributes to our wider 2040 strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across own operations (scope 1 & 2). 4wThis is a great direction to go, also for Last-Mile Transportation, and can benefit energy needs in Northern Countrie too. We need to use our European Energy generation capabilities and introduce energy buffering / storage solutions in a Pan-European approach.
