In 1982, Disney completed EPCOT. It covered an area of ~300 acres and contained more than 300 buildings, the total square footage of which was 2.5M square feet. They didn’t have email. They didn’t have cell phones. And yet, they coordinated a team of 3000 designers, 1000 consultants, and 4500 construction workers. And it only took them 3 years… Where am I going with this? Fast forward to today, we live in a world where employees are measured by: • How many emails they send • How many meetings they have • How many tickets they’ve completed Most orgs are analyzing every possible metric, breaking them down into atomic parts, and drowning in the overhead of coordination and communication. Simply put, they’ve sacrificed their ability to think big and move fast. I think there’s a key metric that’s fallen to the wayside these days: Are you getting shit done?

What does strong ownership look like? Here’s two examples… 1️⃣ Your hotel room has an electrical issue. The technician comes and tells you the light won’t turn off because… “It’s an emergency light” ❌ Lying doesn’t look good and harms trust 2️⃣ When hearing a guest is uncomfortable A front desk employee comes up with a creative solution and implements it. Going above and beyond to increase comfort levels. It’s easy to focus on the negative, but the act of showing ownership can quickly offset negative experiences. Choose to respond with ownership and you’ll show your character and delight others. What’s a customer experience situation that moved you? 〽️ #ownership #trust #customerservice Photo credit/ BARE International

There's a fascinating piece up today from Alec Stevanovski over on HomePros News about the future potential for an "Uber for HVAC" and creating an on-demand space for homeowners to connect with service providers. One of the pain points the piece brings up is (as it always goes in home service) attracting and paying that talent and a need to pay--and stay--competitive. As I told Alec, that talent pool leads to two different types of workers. Are you dealing with gig economy people who are looking for extra money? That's extremely different than an experienced journeyman with the need and potential to make six figures and bennies. It also just brings up a lot of thought-experiment questions. Who covers materials and supply? Whose warehouse? Who is the lender? Do the technicians or this overarching company hold onto customer data? Is this service merely ending up as a middleman between contractors and customers? Tons of questions, but they're all interesting to think about. Check the HomePros piece out for yourself, I'd love to hear what people think. https://lnkd.in/ei4Jj27y

If there are no jobs going out and getting completed, then there is nothing for us to help manage… If you want to be successful as an admin or a manager in this industry, you need to find ways to make life easier for project managers & field technicians AS WELL AS your boss or client. PS: there are ways to hold techs accountable, teach them essential administrative items to keep jobs moving and also reduce stress overall.

Planner Electrical T&D Limerick/Dublin/Cork/Thurles If you are of a certain age I'm guessing this show and it's theme tune was probably one of the soundtracks to your childhood. Murdock was the zany crackpot with a big heart, Face got the women and BA beat the bejaysus out of anyone who got in their way. But of course the man with a plan was Hannibal Smith, the guy with the big ideas who always had the answer. Great show. Getting all misty eyed and nostalgic now. Feel like going out and making a small country's entire armoury out of a box of matches, superglue, a couple of shoe-laces, a length of copper tubing and some sellotape 😜. Nobody done it like the A Team. Our Project Delivery teams can only be successful when they have the right planning in place. That's where you come in. You develop detailed project schedules, coordinate with various departments to align on timelines, and manage resources effectively to meet project milestones. You'll assess project requirements, anticipate potential risks, and implement strategies to mitigate delays. You'll also liaising with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure that every phase of the project, from initial design to handover, is executed efficiently and within budget. Quite simply we don't deliver if we don't have someone like you who guides us through the process and keeps us on track. So if you're someone who "loves it when a plan comes together" we'd love the opportunity to talk to you. You seen what I did there, didn't ya 😀??? If you didn't, well you must have been watching Dynasty, Falcon Crest or Sesame Street or something equally dodgy like that back in the day. Have a look at the spec and apply on our website via the link in the comments section below. If it's a chat you'd like first of all shoot me a message or give me a call.
