The Power of Vision and Mission in Life When we think of mission and vision statements, we often associate them with businesses or startups. But what about life? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself: What’s my vision? What’s my mission in life? Years ago, when I was working as a project manager in Singapore, a friend asked me, “Why do you want to be a project manager?” At first, it felt like a simple question. But the more I thought about it, the deeper I realized the answer was. I loved bringing people together—aligning strengths and working as a team to achieve common goals. That was my “why.” But over time, I started feeling stressed and disconnected in my IT job. It no longer fulfilled me. So, I took a sabbatical and traveled to India. That’s when everything changed. I stumbled upon a yoga teaching role while exploring, and suddenly, everything clicked. The sense of community and togetherness in a yoga space felt like coming home. So, I made the bold decision to leave my high-paying job in Singapore and pursue my newfound passion. My mission became teaching yoga and facilitating wellness workshops. At first, it was magical. But after a while, I realized something was missing. Teaching yoga brought people together, but it didn’t involve working together to achieve a shared goal—my ultimate vision. This self-reflection forced me to redefine how I could fulfill my vision. By then, I had built a community of 48K followers. I decided to start something bigger: creating a space where people could connect, collaborate, and work toward shared goals. Here’s what I learned: It’s not enough to just have a vision. A vision gives you a sense of direction, but your mission—how you achieve your vision—is just as important. And sometimes, the mission you start with may not be the one you stick with. That’s okay. Life is about evolving. As we approach the end of the year, take a moment to reflect: What’s your vision for your life? How do you want to deliver it? Your vision and mission together create your soul’s purpose. This photo was taken after one of the virtual + in-person workshops I held in 2023—a moment that perfectly captured my mission and vision coming to life. So, what’s your vision? How do you plan to align your mission with it in the coming year? Vision + Mission = Soul Purpose ❤️

“It’s much more important to spend your money on culture than yoga and bananas,” Investors in People CEO, Paul Devoy told the CIPD’s Festival of Work. As a corporate workaholic, that turned to yoga, I get this. In my experience, the weekly office fruit delivery was claimed by 9.05 am on Monday morning and corporate yoga isn’t a band-aid to ease the bruises and strain of work stress. Much as I love my yoga and sharing its benefits, shouldn’t we address the root cause of stress at work? Yoga might help melt physical and mental knots that mount up. But why are we so stressed nowadays? Out of the challenges, difficult encounters, deadlines and requests, is there a sense of which are reasonable, and which are not? How easy is it to say ‘No, that’s not possible, right now”? It's not bananas to stop and look at your organisation’s culture and consider whether it’s creating a holistically supportive environment for employees to bring their best self to work and perform to the highest standards. Corporate Yoga isn’t intended to paper over cracks or tick the wellbeing box. It won’t fix a problematic culture on its own. But as part of a wider initiative, it's one thing that can help employees find what works for them and allow them time to focus on their own self-care. Many of us are striving for excellence, covering many bases, with limited resources, time a diminishing commodity, met with a need to keep a pace of change and innovation. We all deserve space for a little self-care, moments of calm, and a chance to recharge the metaphorical batteries. We might all have different ways of doing that, and enjoying the things that make our hearts sing and restore a sense of peace and calm. The key is finding what works for you, making time for it and find as much pleasure as possible from learning new strategies. “With the weekly yoga on a Saturday, what I found was no matter how awful a week, I’d had, the yoga on Saturday morning allowed me to decompress from my work week,” one of my students, a dynamic business development expert, told me. “I could press the reset button so that I could switch off both my mind and my body and leave the working week behind and focus on the weekend. And just have a real break. It meant that I then got the benefit of my weekend before going back to work and being able to leave work until the working week began again.” So do I agree it’s more important to spend money on corporate culture than yoga and bananas? Yes. Self-study, awareness and kindness are at the heart of yoga, so can help to build a caring and supportive community at work. However, for sustainable meaningful change, the real drive starts with a culture that has people at its heart. Want to talk about more ways to support #employeewellbeing besides yoga and bananas? When I started my career, I used to carry my work back home every single day. Paper correction, prepping lesson plans, making presentations, I used to carry all of this home. Is it that easy to leave all the work stress in your office cubicle? YES, it is. It will take some time, but you can do it. Practising mindfulness is the name of the game. Introducing a few mindful practices into your daily routine can significantly reduce stress and promote a healthier balance between work and personal life. 🚫 Thinking mindfulness is about emptying your mind. ✅ Mindfulness is about being present and aware, not about having a blank mind. Focus on observing your thoughts without judgment and gently bring your attention back to the present moment. 🚫 Not setting aside dedicated time. ✅ Schedule specific times for mindfulness practices, even if it's just 5-10 minutes a day. Consistency is key to reaping the benefits of mindfulness. 🚫 Trying to do it all at once. ✅ Start small and gradually increase your practice. Whether it's mindful breathing, meditation, or a mindful walk, ease into it rather than overwhelming yourself with too many techniques at once. 🚫 Expecting immediate results. ✅ Mindfulness is a journey, not a quick fix. Be patient and allow yourself to grow into the practice. Over time, you’ll notice improvements in stress levels and overall balance. 🚫 Keeping it too formal. ✅ Mindfulness can be informal and integrated into daily activities. Try mindful eating, listening, or even driving. Make it a natural part of your life rather than a rigid discipline. By incorporating mindfulness into your daily routine, you can transform how you handle stress and balance work with your personal life. Remember, mindfulness is about enjoying the journey, not just reaching the destination. Give it a try and see the difference it makes! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 🖐 PS: Join my newsletter The Growth Mindset Journey where we explore the principles of growth mindset, offering practical insights, real-life examples, and actionable strategies here: https://lnkd.in/dcJa-D2d 👉 If you're looking to elevate your career game, check out the services I offer on Topmate here: https://lnkd.in/dPuzJuMn Let's work together to make your professional dreams a reality!

A yoga mat ain’t going to cut it. People are stressed out. And according to Gallup’s latest report 41% of employees report experiencing “a lot of stress.” And it doesn’t matter how many mindfulness apps you throw at it, they’re not going to fix poor management or the fact that people don’t have what they need to get their jobs done. There isn't a one-size-fits all solution to reducing stress, as it can vary depending on how an organisation is setup and how people get stuff done on a daily basis. But with us spending an estimated 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime, we need some series stress-busting strategies to shift these worrying statistics. So, where to start? From our extensive research and experience with over 100 organisations, we've identified the following core principles that need to be in place for people to feel engaged, motivated and happy in their work. They are: 1️⃣ Alignment: Clearly defined purpose, values and strategic goals embedded across the employee experience. 2️⃣ Appreciation: Regular recognition of individual and team contributions through meaningful praise, gratitude, and rewards. 3️⃣ Belonging: A deep sense of acceptance, celebrating diversity and providing equal access to opportunities and resources. 4️⃣ Communication: Consistent communication with documented rituals and processes for timely and accessible information transfer. 5️⃣ Empowerment: Support, systems, structure, and tools that enable teams and individuals to be productive, make decisions, and work autonomously. 6️⃣ Flexibility: Choice and adaptability in work methods to accommodate individual needs and optimise productivity. 7️⃣ Growth mindset: A shared belief that individuals can grow and improve their skills through hard work, testing new ideas, and sharing learning opportunities. 8️⃣ Play: Regular opportunities for fun and creative activities with peers to facilitate social connections and trust. 9️⃣ Psychological safety: A belief that people won’t be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes. 🔟 Wellbeing: Prioritising physical, emotional, social, environmental, intellectual, and financial health. So it's time to pop the yoga mats away, and think about how you can start to reinforce these these principles into your daily practices, and create a workplace where people feel seen, valued and supported. Got some stress-busting strategies to share? Let us know in the comments so that we can collectively design kinder, fairer, better designed companies. Not sure where to get started? You are failing miserably in life if you are not doing this! "Building habits that last long enough to change your identity." 15 years ago, I was someone who did not know anything technically about fitness. but today, I cannot imagine a life without exercising or doing activities that keep me fit and healthy. It is a core part of my life. Like I sleep and eat every day, I work out every day. How can you also build such a habit that can be a natural part of your life? 1. Define your version of health and wellness. Grab a pen and paper, and write down, what it means for you! E.g. - I want to be able to run 5K any day! - I want to be able to do 5 to 10 yoga asanas any day! - I want to do meditation at least 2 to 3 times a week! 2. Once you have that, develop activities that will earn you those outcomes. E.g. - To run, start the Run-walk-run method and gradually increase the distance of the running segment in your activities. (you can read more about this in my book BE A RUNNER FOREVER (available on Amazon!) ). Start strength training. - To do yoga asanas, join a yoga class, start building foundations that can help you do yoga asanas and you can slowly learn more asanas over months or years. 3. Keep up with the developing habits, without giving up for long enough! How to define long enough? People say 10000 hours to build mastery, and 45 days to imbibe a habit. I would say, long enough that you feel it part of your day! However long it takes for you as an individual. It took about 2 years of running before I knew, I was finding the magic in running and pursued it without knowing how long I would be on it! If you cannot keep up, it is time you review your vision defined in step 1. Our true mastery lies in how sustainably we stick to our habits for an unfathomable long time! Just one habit is enough to completely transform your life. But to get there, you will need to work on yourself in your exploration to discover that magic. As an experienced health coach, I can show you the path to your holistic health and wellness transformation. 🌿 Why Attending a Retreat Could Be the Best Investment in Yourself 🌿 In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle. But taking time to step back, reflect, and recharge can be a game-changer for both your personal and professional life. Attending a wellness or business retreat offers a unique opportunity for transformation and growth. Here are some of the key benefits of attending a retreat: ✨ Personal Development Retreats provide a dedicated space for self-reflection, where you can challenge limiting beliefs, embrace inner healing, and reconnect with yourself on a deeper level. Whether you’re overcoming personal obstacles or seeking clarity, a retreat can be the perfect environment to reset and find your path forward. 🧘♀️ Improved Mental Health We all experience stress and anxiety, but retreats can help reduce these pressures by providing a peaceful environment that promotes mental clarity and emotional balance. Mindfulness retreats have even been shown to reduce inflammation and improve overall physical health—proving that the mind-body connection is more powerful than we realize. 💼 Learning New Skills For those attending business retreats, the chance to learn new skills or enhance existing ones from experts in the field is invaluable. Stepping away from the office environment allows you to focus on professional development without the usual distractions. 🌳 Connecting with Nature Most retreats are held in natural surroundings that offer a much-needed escape from technology. Whether it’s mountains, forests, or beaches, connecting with nature can reset your mind, spark inspiration, and help you gain new perspectives. 💡 Encouraging Creativity Breaking away from your everyday routine allows your mind to wander and your creativity to flow. Many professionals find that attending a retreat reignites their passion, sparking fresh ideas and inspiration that can be applied to both work and life. 🤝 Building Teamwork For companies, retreats are an excellent opportunity to focus on team-building activities. In a distraction-free setting, teams can work together more effectively, building trust and camaraderie that carries over into the workplace. 🌸 Creating Meaningful Connections Retreats bring together like-minded individuals who share common goals and interests. It’s an incredible opportunity to build genuine relationships, network, and form lifelong friendships in an environment that promotes openness and connection. 🧘♂️ Movement & Mindfulness Retreats often offer a range of movement-oriented activities such as yoga, meditation, pilates, tai chi, and more. These practices not only improve physical health but also contribute to mental clarity and emotional well-being, allowing you to return home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. #RetreatLife #PersonalDevelopment #MentalHealthMatters #TeamBuilding #NatureHealing #SayulitaWellness #ProfessionalGrowth #Mindfulness

Well-being isn’t just rolling out a mindfulness app! Well-being isn’t fruit bowls in the canteen! Well-being isn’t in office yoga! Well-being benefits don’t work! Linked in is littered with posts starting like this - and then the oh so wise revelation that actually it’s about culture. But as someone working day in day out within an organisation trying to drive change, who regularly speaks to other people in similar roles, who in turn are regularly engaging with their leaders on this topic… I don’t know a single person who does think any of the above constitute a well-being strategy, think benefits are a cure all or fails to recognise that ultimately what we are trying to do is change attitudes, behaviours and habits AS WELL AS equip people with tools that may help them improve individual elements of health. Equally I don’t think it demonstrates a good understanding of how to drive change by positioning benefits and culture change as oppositional or an either/or proposition. The right benefits can address issues like health equity and equally support culture change by signalling that an organisation is open and willing to talk about something and recognises it as a workplace issue. Obvious examples here are menopause and neurodiversity supports. Equally culture change often needs the right benefits in place to show an organisations sincerity. Try encouraging people to open up about mental health with no corresponding access to support. Of course there are studies and data that suggest we’ll-being investment isn’t seeing a return, but even this needs to be treated with caution and curiosity vs turned into a catchy headline. One recent study that received a lot of attention doesn’t stand up to any scrutiny (as my brilliant colleague Julie Wilkes, PhD will happily explain) and a lot of the other figures waved about include the significant sum firms spend on insurance which by its nature is not proactive - but does that mean we should stop providing it? I sincerely doubt that would improve employee well-being. Finally if you are a supposed well-being advocate do you really think yelling from the roof tops that well-being benefits don’t work is a helpful thing to do? What are you really telling people? Don’t eat the free fruit! Don’t try mindfulness! Don’t call the EAP even though you are struggling! None of these seem like helpful advice. In short i would hope we can have a conversation on LinkedIn about the challenges (of which there are many) of driving a cultural shift in how we work without scapegoating benefits or targeted initiatives. Every time I see someone do this all it tells me is they don’t really get it and I scroll on.

In the fast-paced corporate world, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, constantly chasing the next goal or deadline. But amidst the chaos, there’s a transformative power in practicing presence—a state of mind where you fully engage with the moment, cultivating gratitude and deepening your appreciation for the journey. Here are a few ways to reach that state of mind: 1. Start Your Day with Mindful Movement: Before diving into your day, take a few moments to connect with your body through mindful exercise. Whether it’s a morning stretch, yoga, or a short run, this practice grounds you, bringing your focus into the present and setting a positive tone for the day ahead. 2. Meditate or Practice Mindfulness: Spend 10-15 minutes in meditation or mindfulness exercises. This practice cultivates presence which will ensure your day is filled with mental clarity and tranquility. 3. Pause to Breathe: Throughout your workday, integrate short breaks for deep breathing. These pauses help you reset, allowing you to return to your tasks with renewed focus and a calmer mindset. This simple practice keeps you anchored in the present, reducing stress and enhancing productivity. 4. Reflect on Wins, Big and Small: At the end of your workout or workday, take a moment to reflect on your accomplishments. Celebrate both the big milestones and the small victories. This reflection reinforces a positive mindset, helping you appreciate the progress you’re making both in and out of the gym. 5. Engage Fully, Whether in the Gym, at home, or in the Office: Presence is about giving your full attention to whatever you’re doing. Whether you’re in a meeting or lifting weights, be fully there. This level of engagement not only improves performance but also enriches your experience, making each moment more fulfilling. Presence isn’t just about being mindful—it’s about recognizing the value in every moment, appreciating your progress, and cultivating a mindset of gratitude. By integrating these practices into your fitness and work routines, you’ll find greater balance, resilience, and satisfaction in both your personal and professional life.

Finding Balance and Creating #InnerPeace ☮ I’m sure you’ve all heard the phrase “work-life balance” and thought this a wonderful aim for your life. I too have thought the same thing for many years. But I think the reality is that our life is full of chapters and phases that cause us to cycle in and out of balanced moments. More recently, I have given in to the idea of seasons of balance, but it never means that my life is perfectly balanced between my career and my personal life. For me, the seasons of balance occur when my personal life and my career seem to be on a forward momentum, and I can see success. Oftentimes, it’s one or the other that is more dominant, but rarely is it all running smoothly. 🤷♀️ In the last few years, I have learned more about myself and how to manage my energy and find moments of stillness and restoration. What I have learned is that I need alone time to rejuvenate and recover from all the things that I put in my schedule. If you know me, you know that I am generally very outgoing and engaging, so it may come as a surprise that I enjoy being alone. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I REQUIRE alone time on a regular basis to maintain my inner balance. 🧘♀️ I have struggled with the guilt of carving out that alone time when it means being away from my family on the weekend after a long week with a full schedule. But I’ve realized that without taking care of my mental health, I cannot do all those things that others have come to expect of me. Of course, I volunteer to do all these things for others, so it really is a self-imposed mandate. 🙄 Around the beginning of this year, I decided to sign up for a yoga retreat (which I’ve NEVER done!). I saw the flyer at my local yoga studio and thought about it for a few weeks before registering. It was so hard to say yes to myself! So, in January, I signed up for the retreat scheduled for July 11-14. I also thought this could be my reward and time of rest if I successfully launched my consulting firm by then (in January, I had just started drafting my business plan). Well, whaddya know – I launched my firm on July 1, and I accomplished my goal of rewarding myself with the yoga retreat. 😍 This retreat was unlike any other vacation I’ve taken before – because vacations are SO MUCH WORK!! This getaway was truly peaceful, restful, and included stillness. I think many of us struggle with being still because of all the "to do" lists and things we should be doing. But to really be still, you need to have space from all those life responsibilities. I challenge you to find that thing you need to make yourself whole so that you can continue to do all the things that you want to, for yourself and others. 💗 #mentalhealth #wellness #balance #bewell #peace

Successful workplace wellness initiatives - you know, the ones that get such a bad rap these days - hinge on addressing fundamental factors such as manageable workloads, autonomy, and flexibility. By prioritizing these foundational elements, organizations can establish a culture where employee wellbeing is not only acknowledged but also becomes an intrinsic and vital aspect of the workplace. #workplacewellbeing #workplacewellness #mentalhealth #burnoutprevention
Yoga, meditation, resilience building, and wellbeing workshops are not fluffy. They only seem that way when organisations use them merely as checkboxes. These practices are grounded in evidence and have been proven to enhance wellbeing across various settings. The issue lies in how they are incorporated into workplace culture. Resilience shouldn't be limited to a rigid 6-week program; it should be integrated into every project. Meditation doesn't have to be a lengthy 2-hour workshop; it can be part of employees' daily moments of rest and reflection. Similarly, yoga can be seamlessly integrated into people's work routines, benefiting not only their physical health but also their mental wellbeing If we are move away from the fluff, we need to start thinking of wellbeing as a key part of organisational culture. We should work on incorporating it into the way we do things every day, like our daily routines and habits, as well as into our projects and initiatives. This way, wellbeing becomes a natural and important part of our work life. BelievePerform
