There were ~8000 public companies in 1996, today it's about ~4600. I've heard many anecdotal explanations as to why, primarily regulations and the increase in private funding. A 2023 research article states that M&A is the biggest contributor. The Magnificent 7 companies alone have acquired ~870 companies since the 90s. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, you need talent that have stabilise, systemise and set protocols in place to maintain the success of the firm. a) Signs you are at this stage: Sales consistent, Firm is leaking money through wastages, inefficiencies in work procedures. b) When to use this: Firms that have lasted 5 years and above. 3. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, you need talent that has added multiple income streams for the firm in diverting to different markets, changing up the service provided. a) Signs you are at this stage: The current management does not want to grow the firm anymore. Their position is maintaining the wealth, market share of the firm is eroding. b) When to use this: Firms that have lasted 10 years and above.
