Meet Laura Bleakney, Director of Swanlund HR at Illinois Human Resources! Learn more about Laura in the Q&A below. #RealizingHRProfessionals 1. What brings you the most fulfillment as an HR professional? Honestly, it’s the thrill of reading yet another creative way to say "good at multitasking" on a résumé. Just kidding, it’s all about seeing people succeed and love what they do. We have the pleasure of supporting a large variety of departments and colleges. Working with others can be incredibly fulfilling, especially when you get to collaborate with diverse individuals, share ideas, and build strong relationships. It brings opportunities to learn from different perspectives, foster teamwork, and create a positive, inclusive work environment. Helping people grow, solving challenges together, and celebrating collective achievements can make working with others both enjoyable and rewarding. 2. Why do you choose to work at Illinois? It’s the people, the endless cornfields, and the fact that you can experience all four seasons in one day. 3. Do you prefer coffee or tea? Hot chocolate, please and thank you! 4. Are you a night person or a morning person? Night person. 5. What’s something unique about YOU that you would share with your HR colleagues? I have a strong sense of direction. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gW-Y3Eg8

Hello. I have been privileged to work with some fantastic organisations and people in my career so far, all of which has contributed to the knowledge and experience I have built up in HR, but more significantly, Industrial and Employee Relations. In my Industrial/Employee Relations "consultancy" years, which totalled over 2 decades and lasted until the pandemic, I got to experience so much variety in the work I did, the industries I did it in, and the places I had to go to get it done. From the swankiest office in London, to a jeans factory in Cambodia, a mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the heat of Brazil; I have learned so much about people and cultures, but also learned to never take anything for granted and that however bad something seems, there are always others who are worse off. Where are these pearls of "wisdom" going? Well, nowhere of any value, I am sorry to say! But, I was thinking about what excuse I can come up with to write a post to publicise my website, which is now live, and thats what came out! I am offering myself to work with Employers to give support, guidance and even training, on all matters relating to Industrial Relations, Employee Relations, Collective Bargaining and the like. And my website is at: andycook-er.com so please do have a look. It really helps with the analytics if nothing else. And of course, please get in touch. Thank you Andy PS - coming soon - the IR Guru Podcast, hosted by myself and Nick Dalton, featuring interviews with key people from within Industrial and Employee Relations. #industrialrelations #employeerelations #humanresources #hr #collectivebargaining #business #tradeunions

✨HR planning ✨can either make or break your business. Yet, most companies just follow the old 'filling empty positions' approach. In the world of HR Planning, it's about more than just filling positions—it's about assembling the perfect team to achieve your company's goals. 🎶✨ HR Planning means making sure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time, and in the right roles. It's like solving a puzzle where every piece fits perfectly. Let's break it down: 1️⃣ Right Number of People: We need just enough staff to get the job done efficiently, without overburdening costs or leaving tasks unfinished. 2️⃣ Right Kind of People: Imagine a team of superheroes, each with their own special abilities, working together seamlessly. That's what we aim for—a mix of skills and expertise that complement each other. 3️⃣ Right Time: Timing matters. We want to avoid rushing to hire or leaving positions empty for too long. 4️⃣ Right Place: It's about matching people to roles where they can shine best, like putting Batman in alexandria City, not Metropolis. Why does it matter? ❌ Too many staff? It leads to higher costs and lower quality. ❌ Too few staff? Quality suffers and risks increase. And we definitely want to avoid hiring people who are overqualified, underqualified, or just not the right fit. Efficient HR planning isn't just about numbers—it's an area of management. It's about understanding what your company needs and finding the best people to make it happen. Warm Regards, Ahmed Ghonamy Assistant HR Manager #HRPlanning #HumanResources #TalentManagement #WorkforceStrategy #EmployeeEngagement #OrganizationalDevelopment #HRStrategy

Recently we were asked what the job title of an executive-level HR position should be, and if it matters. The question forced us to reflect upon the subtle but significant differences between a CHRO, CPO, and other titles. We examined the Fortune 50 companies to see what they’re doing. And, we asked ourselves, how do different titles influence expectations and talent? We found that nuances in title can and do influence how both candidates and employers view the role.
