We'd like to hear from people about our proposals to raise more income and make more savings before we set our budget next February. Our costs are continuing to rise and our income isn't keeping up, so we have some difficult decisions to make. Please give us your feedback at https://lnkd.in/eDuMDHGS

I’m in finance; I always knew I wasn’t working a day in my life. Thanks, Mr. Starmer, for finally confirming this. Also, thanks to the cabinet for the budget, as it seems I’ll be renting until the end of my days since I don’t want to just give away my money again, the same money on which I’ve already paid one of the highest personal income taxes in the world. Well, the capital gains tax will just lead to an increase in consumption, which I’ll need anyway when businesses raise prices in response to “neutral-for-employee” increase of social contributions, so it’s alright. I’m not saying I’d have better ideas, just thinking out loud. #budgetday #ukbudget #budget

How would you balance the books? 📊 Every year, we face tough decisions to balance our budget and protect vital services. For 2025-26, rising costs and increasing demand mean we’re facing a £21.3 million shortfall. We’re proposing changes like restructuring services, modest Council Tax increases, and boosting community resilience but we want your input. 💡 Try our budget simulator, complete a short form, or share your ideas here: https://lnkd.in/eNMx7g3u by 15 January.

Beyond the bigger headlines, our team picked out a few smaller but interesting announcements from the 2024 federal budget. One of them was them was the collection of measures spread throughout the budget to reduce the "administrative burden" or "time tax" of dealing with government to access services and benefits, especially for people with lower incomes. To me, the most interesting is the plan to automatically open RESP accounts on behalf of children by the time they turn four to make sure they don't miss out on Canada Learning Bond/CESG payments to help them save for post-secondary. This is money that today reaches just over 40% of eligible kids. If it works, not only will it mean cutting through red tape that is holding back kids in low-income families from accessing RESPs, it also will test a new way of designing programs to reach people. Don’t forget what they have done. Don’t forget party-gate, don’t forget the Covid contracts, don’t forget the lies and don’t forget the kickbacks. Don’t forget the cronyism, the division, the scapegoating of minorities, the failure to invest, the trips to the bookies, the decimation of your public services. Telling us that “we’re all in it together”, the very same people who hurt your family finances - giving tax cuts to the richest 1% that crashed our economy, don’t forget any of it. And don’t risk it. Because you don’t have to, you can stop it - don’t forget that. Change is in your hands. You can be part of it. You can be part of changing our country tomorrow by voting Labour.
