Our Chief Business Officer Tim Schenk is at Bio-Europe in Stockholm, Sweden today! This year, BioEurope is celebrating 30 years of facilitating partnerships and taking part is a great opportunity to forge meaningful connections across the industry. Let us know if you’re around! Citryll is pioneering a transformative approach to treating immune-mediated inflammatory diseases by targeting Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs), a fundamental component of the inflammatory process that has yet to be addressed therapeutically. What Alpacas got to do with Science and Drug Development? This is one of the most popular booths at #BIOEUROPE - who would think a wall of toy-alpacas would make such a hype 😅 Great event-sales idea! But there’s a fun fact behind that and i know it’s completely useless for most of us but hey - fun facts are called that for a reason! So basically alpacas 🦙 (and llamas and camels) are particularly useful for antibody production due to their unique immune systems, which produce a special type of antibody known as “nanobodies.” There are farms with thousands of alpacas, where they “grow” altibodies in them, alpacas live happy lives -> people get material for drug development and scientific research. There are many more advantages of using alpacas and not e.g. rabbits or mice - but you can chatgpt that if you’re curious ;) That’s it :) hope you have a great day with this fun fact! Cheers from BIO Europe Conference in Stockholm 👋

I’ve been speaking to much of my network about what the next few years will look like in the cell and gene space. The space is booming and investment is back up again (hurrah!), however there are still a lot of challenges facing the industry. Some of the biggest concerns that my network have described to me include: 1. Stringent regulatory requirements across the board 2. Supply chain, and the logistics of actually transporting these therapies for patient use 3. Evidence generation challenges, particularly in the case of products within rare and orphan diseases 4. Concerns around pricing and reimbursement pathways not being fit-for-purpose 5. Healthcare systems not being set up to deliver these products (NHS as a prime example) I’ve had the pleasure of engaging recently with ATMP companies large and (very!) small, and we’ve discussed these challenges at length, debating solutions and sharing insights into what needs to change. With so much incredible innovation being developed at these companies across Europe and ROW, the ability to truly change how we treat diseases seems to be in touching distance. I have no doubt that these challenges will be met and resolved with a ferocity; given the passion, aptitude and determination of those working in this space. I’d love to continue this discussion, if anyone wants to share their own thoughts below or on the phone (you’ve got my number!)

💊 "I think I'm most optimistic about use cases based on better data related to the segmentation of disease. Because once you've got a better idea of the actual diseases that are there, it's much easier to model them and develop drugs against them." We are proud to see our speakers at the #NordicFutureHealth2024. For example, yesterday Marija Armus held a very important presentation regarding national patient participation within Biobank Sweden. To summarize the presentation: Today, we look at patient and next-of-kin involvement as a fundamental part of Biobank Sweden’s work to create a more sustainable and efficient biobank infrastructure which benefits both research and healthcare. By actively involving patients and next-of-kin when designing and improving biobank services, we can make sure that their needs and wishes are accommodated, which increases both satisfaction and engagement. It is decisive that we build clear and open communication channels to create mutual trust between patients, next-of-kin and Biobank Sweden, and to continuously evaluate our methods to improve this collaboration. By recognizing patients and their next-of-kin as active partners, we can together form a biobank system which really makes a difference and contributes to innovative research and improved healthcare. #NordicFutureHealth2024 #patient #nextofkin #biobanking #biobanks #PrecisionMedicine #PrecisionHealth Biobank Norway NSHG-PM

Creating a platform to integrate diverse chronic disease data sets from the Accelerating Medicines Partnership. The Common Fund Venture Program SysBio Initiative has announced its first award to integrate various data types collected through the Accelerating Medicines Partnership, a public-private partnership with the goal of improving the development of new diagnostics and treatments for chronic disease. The Venture Program SysBio Initiative will create a centralized portal and tools to allow researchers to search for data across existing platforms to connect datasets to answer new scientific questions.
