ICC United Kingdom today published its report "Putting the Circular Economy into Motion: From Barriers to Opportunities" in collaboration with EY. The report amplifies the often-overlooked perspectives of businesses and calls for multilateral cooperation, harmonized regulations, and greater inclusivity to foster a successful transition to a resource-efficient, circular economy. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to contribute to this report and influence the drive towards sustainability in #Internationaltrade. #diamond #coatings The report is available below:

📣An official definition for circular economy! 🎉The ISO - International Organization for Standardization has recently released new standards for the circular economy. ISO defines circular economy as an economic system that uses a systemic approach to maintain a circular flow of resources, by recovering, retaining or adding to their value, while contributing to sustainable development. 🧰The International Organization for Standardization is a nongovernmental organization that comprises standards bodies from more than 160 countries. By publishing international standards that cover a variety of sectors, ISO helps facilitating international trade by establishing criterias to ensure that products and services meet international norms. 🔍The new standards provide a complete toolkit for companies to shift to a circular economy, covering different topics from principles to measurements and providing standardization and technical terminology. Here are the new circular economy standards in detail: 📍ISO 59004: Vocabulary, principles, and guidance for implementation. Defines what the circular economy is, including its vision, principles and general guidance including how it can be implemented and contribute to sustainable development. 📍ISO 59010: Guidance on the transition of business models and value networks. Provides business-oriented guidance on how to transition towards circular business models and circular value networks by setting goals, identifying circularity aspects to be addressed and taking actions. 📍ISO 59020: Measuring and assessing circularity performance. Provides a structured approach to measure and assess circularity performance and sustainability impact based on standard indicators and complementary methods. This represents an important step towards standardisation, which is the key to making circular economy an always more spread business model. Stay tuned as two more standards will be released soon! We look forward to sharing more information about the PC Solution and how it help manufacturers in overcoming a number of barriers in facilitating circularity across the value chain. Moreover ensuring the achievement of a key priority highlighted by PwC in improving the "collaboration between suppliers, manufacturers and industry peers would help to create an integrated and cost-effective infrastructure of resource minimisation, end-of-life collection and recycling". https://lnkd.in/euE_TUc8

Exciting news! There are two new sets of standards that are driving the advancement of the technical aspects of the circular economy and they may apply to your business. ✅ Yesterday the ISO - International Organization for Standardization released the highly anticipated set of circular economy standards and which cover: ISO 59004:2024 Circular economy — Vocabulary, principles and guidance for implementation ISO 59020:2024 Circular economy — Measuring and assessing circularity performance ISO 59010:2024 Circular economy — Guidance on the transition of business models and value networks Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gtQNmP5A 🇪🇺 There is also the EU's European Sustainability Reporting Standards (which are in the final stages of development and released as a draft presently), ESRS E5 applies to Circular Economy and Resource Use. This is part of the new CSRD reporting requirements which will affect a lot of companies around the world. Review the draft standard here: https://lnkd.in/ge7QzQZ3 Correction: Please note on the slides below I say it's still in draft form as I was only able to find the above draft version on the EFRAG website until I was made aware (see comments below) of the published and approved versions here: https://lnkd.in/gbnUs4-8 🏅Together these new frameworks provide the standardization and technical terminology/approaches needed to ensure that companies everywhere have a clear framework to operate within when adapting to the circular economy. I hope this snapshot summary I put together below helps you see this exciting advancement towards a global CE transformation in all-sized businesses! I have a new initiative called Circular Futures (circularfutures.co) where we help organisations envisage the practical CE future they can enter into via a unique innovation and foresight process, reach out if you want to know how my team and I can help you take on this exciting new innovation opportunity. #standards #circulareconomy #CSRD #reporting #termonology #frameworks #ISO #sustainability #resourceuse #measure #environmentalimpact #circularinnovation #forsight #makechange #circularfutures #transformation

From a sustainability perspective, the trend towards greater vertical integration could have positive impacts by reducing waste in supply chains. Now, as companies look at how to gain control of their supply chains for regulatory compliance purposes, Carlos Cordon believes they can also seize opportunities to reduce waste and other environmental impacts through partnerships, consolidation, and other innovative approaches such as those shared in this article.

We collaborated with Standards Australia on the report Implementing Circular Economy Standards in the APEC Region. The project’s goal was to enhance the adoption of circular economy standards and practices within the APEC region. The report draws on findings from a comprehensive desktop review of the standards and policy landscape, a hybrid workshop in Seattle conducted by Standards Australia with standard experts from the APEC region, workshop surveys, and interviews with circular economy experts. The report identified several barriers to the adoption of circular economy standards, which include: -Standard development and access -Markets, value chains and labour -Policy and regulations -Socio-cultural and knowledge Project participants proposed recommendations for key actors, including industry, standards development organisations, governments, and international/regional organisations, to support a greater adoption of circular economy standards and practices. These recommendations recognise the varied roles these actors play in standards development, application within industry, and their interplay with other governance tools such as policy and regulations.
