Interesting article on CSO’s here. The notion of a CSO or CSD in many businesses appears much more important than actually giving them the tools to engage in change. Indeed despite what the large consultancies quoted here appear to have found in their surveys, finding a CSO/CSD with the resource, budget and influence to enable change is as rare as hens teeth. The translation of a corporate ESG into fundamental change actions should not be problematic if CSO’s/CSD’s are given a level value. #sustainability https://lnkd.in/ewq8Bdr5

Picture this: a company’s Head of ESG, its board, and its C-suite take months devising new ESG and sustainability objectives, initiatives, strategies and frameworks, but when these are implemented, employees simply don’t take the actions asked of them. Or this: A company releases a new, more environmentally-friendly product line, but despite investing heavily in product and marketing, consumers still pick the less sustainable products off the shelf. The problem? 👉 Changing people’s behaviour is incredibly difficult. 👈 There are two parts to this: people simply not wanting to change the way they do things, and people not having the information they need to make an informed decision. Only the second is in the zone of control of ESG and sustainability leaders. 🚦The traffic light nutritional label system on food products is a perfect example of an initiative to tackle this issue. The system gives consumers the information they need quickly and with no extra effort required from them. At a glance, they can identify the rough calorie, fat, and sugar content of a food. It’s simple but incredibly effective in empowering consumers to make better (healthier) decisions. I’d like to see similar innovative initiatives that empower consumers to make better environmental and sustainability choices. #ESG #sustainability #riskmanagement #governance #sustainablebusiness
