I saw this new treatment on live Google for flight search today. Looks like Google interprets your flight search query, and will search OTAs and Airlines for you and insert the lowest price in your serp. Clicking that box goes direct to live search. This is part of Google's DMA compliance in European markets. They do this for all flight searches, but it really shines with exact dates for example. Over time this will change user behavior. Google itself and airline results come back instantly. OTAs and Metas take however long they take. I think airlines come back fast because Google must just be searching its own flights product. Over time this will benefit whichever organic result can return the lowest price in the shortest time. So it will benefit Google most - because it is both meta search (low price) and instant. Second in the short term will benefit airlines (because their results are instant). Over time this will benefit OTAs if they can get fast search times because they will generally beat individual airlines on price. But at least for now I expect that this display will tend to benefit Google and airlines, at everyone else's expense. These kinds of display changes tend to create a sort of gold rush - those who react fast to this - e.g. fixing the speed of their flight search if you're an OTA or meta - will benefit most.
