Multi-national organizations must still account for culture and diversity in products/services, compliance, market share, competition, the C-Suite and Boardroom. Even US-based employers will continue to address neurodiversity, pyschological safety, disability and accessibility, mental health and wellness, collaboration, recruiting from different groups, AI bias, generational diversity, work-life, and more. Diversity is not going away; it will only get better from here. Get your team certified: https://lnkd.in/eWjt7xg

Neurodiverse and neurodivergent are often confused, but they’re actually distinct and useful terms. Let’s clarify their meanings. The human population is neurodiverse. This means there's a natural variety in how people process and interact with the world. Neurodiversity simply acknowledges this inherent diversity in any group of people. But our societies often have narrow generalisations about how most people communicate, what motivates them, and the environments and systems they thrive in. So when someone’s ways of being significantly diverge from these assumptions, they are considered neurodivergent. Unless you’re working solo, your team is neurodiverse. And your team most likely has neurodivergent individuals. Some neurodivergent people are thriving within their workplaces, using their unique strengths to contribute effectively. Others are struggling within existing systems and team cultures despite having much to offer, and contributing to high staff turnover rates. Is your workplace one where a neurodiverse team can bring diverse skills and perspectives? Do you have the understanding and flexibility to allow those whose ways of being diverge from the norm to flourish and contribute well? Let’s foster an inclusive environment by learning about different neurotypes, adapting our systems and environments, and valuing the unique strengths each individual brings. In doing so, we can create workplaces where all our team members can thrive.

Why does attention to neurodiversity matter to your organization? It is estimated that 1 in 5 people is neurodivergent. Depending on the size of your organization, it's highly likely that you've already employed someone who falls under this umbrella. However, there are several reasons why you may not be effectively supporting your neurodivergent employees: 1. You may not know who they are, as neurodivergence is often “invisible”. 2. It’s very possible they don’t know who they are. Many individuals only discover their neurodivergence later in life, in their 30s, 40s, 50s…I’ve had coaching clients in their 60s. 3. If they suspect or know they're neurodivergent, they may not know the strategies and accommodations that could benefit them. You may be an incredibly supportive supervisor ready to give them whatever accommodations they need but they can’t tell you because they don’t know. 4. They may fear disclosing their diagnosis, apprehensive about potential consequences or stigma. 5. Obtaining a diagnosis can be difficult, with limited diagnostic tools and qualified professionals for certain neurotypes, along with potentially high costs and long waiting lists. It's crucial to proactively incorporate neurodiversity-friendly strategies into your management toolkit. You never know who may benefit. Does your DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) strategy encompass neurodiversity? If not, I invite you to contact me for an initial consultation. Let’s discuss the needs of your organization and how we can work together to empower your neurodivergent workforce. #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #diversityandinclusion #neurodiversityatwork #InclusiveWorkspaces
