When I look back over my life, discipleship has been one of the key elements of my walk with Christ. That has made the most difference in terms of teaching me things that I knew maybe from the pages of Scripture, but I didn't know how they applied to me. I didn't know how to make sure that I was the kind of single woman, that young married woman, that woman with small children, woman in ministry, building career, building life. How do I do that in a way that mirrors what I'm seeing being taught to me in the Scriptures? And for that I've needed older, wiser women. Along the way, we've been willing to open up their life, their experience, their home and their heart to me. For me and Jerry, we've been married 25 plus years now. And for us there is a couple. It's actually the couple to whom this book is dedicated, John and Trina Jenkins. And this couple, man, early on in our marriage, we weren't even sure what endeared us to them at the time. They just kind of decided that they were going to take us under their wings and that they were going to develop a relationship with us. Here we are. A couple decades later and there's still mentors and offer discipleship to us. They ask us the hard questions about marriage. They ask us about all the little juicy details that sometimes, if left unaddressed, can cause a fissure and a fracture in a home. They having raised six kids themselves and having been just a step ahead of us in that, they were able to give us practical wisdom and insight all along the way to help us to raise our boys and to do our best to honor God with these three gifts that God entrusted to us. Life is hard, and we have needed some people to walk alongside of us to encourage us not to quit, that God is faithful. He's going to get you through this season and steward you to the next season. And so I've been grateful to them and there have been people like them literally all along the way in different seasons and for different reasons in life that the Lord has paired with us and the discipleship that they have offered to us has made all of the difference.
