While almost a distant memory, my recent time away provided space to reflect on the first part of the year. As some will know, I launched hireQ Consulting in February after a great number of years working inside one of Australia's most iconic retailers. Fair to say the move from corporate to start up has been a major adjustment and provided huge learnings. While there has been periods of doubt and fear, it's been a lot of fun working with the job seekers and hiring organisations I have been lucky enough to partner. I am incredibly thankful for the trust that all I have worked with so far have provided. The confidence shown has been greatly appreciated. Some of the searches so far that we have completed on include; ✅ Head of Commercial - emerging Sports Media and Marketing agency ✅ GM Growth (x 2) - Growing logistics/freight management firm ✅ GM Digital - Multifaceted retail/wholesale group ✅ COO - Australian founded global footwear brand ✅ Senior Marketing Manager - Australian founded global footwear brand ✅ Senior Key Account Manager - Australian lifestyle apparel brand ✅ Digital Manager - Australian retail apparel group ✅ Head of Customer Experience - Established transport provider All of these were crucial and strategic needs for each organisation, thus requiring complex and multifaceted searches. What enabled the success in all of these was the committed partnership with each client and a focus to work as one to secure the right person for each role. Equally, the openness and commitment that each applicant has shown through the process has been amazing. While you can only fill each role with one person, my approach has been to provide all I've interacted with coaching they can leverage throughout their job search. The aspiration when I started the business was to provide a higher quality talent and job search experience - small steps so far but I am committed to making this a reality each and every day. If you think I might be able to help you in your next talent or job search, please don't hesitate to reach out - I'd love to talk to help if I can. #thanks #appreciation #execsearch #jobsearch https://hireq.com.au/

Recruitment can be hard So can waiting one week too long before launching a recruitment campaign So can hiring too quickly And so too can hiring without a set of values, a set of expectations I believe more than anything, recruiting without a strong brand can be even harder However, the hardest medicine to drink as a business owner, or a manager, is looking back a year later when you did not utilise the time you had to just get started I hear of so many friends and colleagues who either are business owners or managers who get so scared of “how hard it is” that they don’t start at all At least trying to get a message out their about what you do day to day, paired with defining your values and beliefs, along with a strong process to ensure a quality recruitment, makes life and business all the more easier And much more enjoyable We found that a recent sponsored ad, aimed at recruiting a team member or a contractor, didn’t get any bites at all within the barbering community But my existing clients did see it and we had great feedback from them! So if brand development is we get from a recruitment campaign, then really it all ends up part of a long term recruitment process So starting somewhere is always a good thing Getting our brand out there is great for us as a team And you never know where a strong brand over time can help to recruit, just when you need it! But I think my personal biggest lesson in recruitment is to recruit early, even when it’s not urgent. Because as most recruiters I’m sure already know from experience, when it’s urgent you get desperate AND the pressure on the business and the team becomes huge Here’s to all the small business owners or managers who are learning along the way, not caring if it’s hard and just getting on with it anyway! 🤩 SEBANDTOM.COM @sebandtombowden @thebowdenbarber #recruitment #hairsalon #barber #smallbusiness #brandawareness #teams #adelaidebusiness

RECRUITING is part of your BRAND There's something truly magical about recruiting on behalf of a company where the brand, the company culture and the customer commitment are in lockstep. Of course this also includes the company having a great product or service. These are the types of recruiting situations where potential job candidates have been known to become customers or business partners or on the flip side where the company's customers and business partners are applying for their job openings. The quality of the recruiting process can also have a lot to do with this. How a company approaches recruiting is part of the brand. #recruiting #culture #brand

I would like to think its more like a duck 🦆 floating, calm on the exterior but paddling like hell underneath it all. You may be thinking, what has kept me in recruitment all this time? 🤔 In all honesty it’s the variety in recruitment, there’s always something new happening in this world ✨. Continually evolving 🔁, with new clients and candidates coming onto the market, new recruitment methods 🔎 and its especially satisfying to see how my input has helped candidates careers to flourish 📈⭐️. One common mistake I notice among Talent Acquisition professionals is the lack of effort put into networking and personal branding. Many only connect and network when they need to fill a role, neglecting connections that are not immediately necessary. Proactive networking is essential, not just for work, but for building a community and a strong support system. Engaging in hearty conversations with like-minded individuals, even if it's been years since you last spoke, can prove invaluable. These connections can make our jobs easier and enrich our lives. Professionally, having a broad network equips you to handle any role, domain, or volume due to the exposure and connections you've cultivated. Additionally, personal branding is key. While employer branding is important for filling open positions, it's equally crucial that candidates and others remember you as an individual, not just a recruiter from XYZ company offering a position. Taking the extra time to create a lasting impact while performing your duties ensures that candidates, regardless of their fit for the role, remember you positively. When candidates join, they may see you as a contributing factor to their decision, beyond just the company, role, and compensation. There's nothing more satisfying and validating for a recruiter than this recognition. P.S. The picture below is the fantasy of factors and its percentage affecting the decisions of my candidate, is not a fact!
