Chris Phoenix excellent refference! I value the book this Harvard Business Review article highlights greatly. In a book series I produced, I have previously highlighted the surgical breakdown of the equation that makes up Red and Blue Ocean strategies as defined by the authors W.Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne --so this content is both familiar and resonates significantly. I would add dynamic SaaS as a category where there is still room for vast blue oceans to be discovered and developed as responses to market defined needs, and needs not even identified --- yet certain to proliferate, as we rely more on subscriptions vs. assets and the resulting MRR. Although it is noted that technology is not the driving factor of the 108 businesses analyzed in the refferenced study, of which 61% of the profits came, based on the defining principles--value, people, profit, differentiation and low cost(profitability) are definitely strong components of several SaaS solutions I rely on and those I have developed.
