As Memorial Day 2024 is upon us, I was honored and privileged this afternoon to be invited to the Promotion Ceremony of my nephew’s wife Lauryn Fowler to the rank of Major in the United States Air Force. As a Medical Doctor, she serves both her patients and her Country. Got chills as most 🇺🇸 Americans would, and should, as she recited the oath to continue to “……defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic…..”. Proud of Lauryn, my nephew and their young family. We will never forget the sacrifices. #MemorialDay2024.

I am 56 years old and I can see the end ahead. Not in a morose sort of way but more in a "memento mori" sense. Tomorrow is not promised so do all you can for those you care about today. Leave nothing unsaid. Time is also a great clarifier. When you begin to understand it is truly finite, some things become more important and others less. Patience begins to wane as you find that you have less time for things that don't matter to you because you want more time for things that do. You realize you can do anything but not everything. Choices must be made. You also come to understand there are no shortcuts, no hacks, no secrets. You realize that your actions must reflect what you want most and not what you want now if you want to achieve anything meaningful. You understand and embrace the mantra of "climb every day" because that is the only way the work gets done. If anything changes it is because someone did something. Nothing gets done by thinking about it. All can. Most won't. Few do. At the end, I think we would all like to be able to say..."I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." #dieempty #climbeveryday #dothework
