Check out Elaine Pofeldt's latest Social Capital Book suggestion at the Center for Social Capital: The Friction Project: How Smart Leaders Make the Right Things Easier and the Wrong Things Harder by Bob Sutton and Huggy Rao. "Stanford professors Robert Sutton, author of The No-Asshole Rule, and co-author Huggy Rao tackle the forces that make it hard to get anything done in a large organization in this insightful book. Offering ideas on how to identify, diagnose and eliminate “destructive friction,” they embrace the powers of civility, caring and even love in the workplace — and allowing for certain types of friction that will help everyone on the team get better at what they do. Running a Social Capital company, at its essence, means busting through inertia, and you’ll learn plenty about how to do that in these pages." Counter the suppression of discovery. Despite being a game-changer in human development, most people don’t tap discovery’s power. Leaders dismiss opportunities for discovery without inquiry. Or they experience discomfort engaging others in a process with an uncertain outcome. In suppressing discovery, everyone loses by closing the door to what they don’t know. In my book, I get to share research and real-world observations on how to open that door. The Untapped Power of Discovery: How to Create Change That Inspires a Better Future comes out in late February. I look forward to our conversations after you have a chance to read it. You can pre-order here. https://amzn.to/4ejC2Kp #PowerOfDiscovery #CreateChange #NewBookLaunch

If there is one book I would wholeheartedly recommend, it would be The Principles and Power of Vision: Keys to Achieving Personal and Corporate Destiny by the late Dr. Myles Munroe. This book has profoundly shaped my perspective on both the marketplace and the role each of us plays within it. In reading it, I've come to understand that there is a deeper, more transformative layer to the idea of "loyalty to a company" one that often goes unnoticed by conventional thinking and may even make organizational psychologists uneasy. As much as it might sound like a cliché, It's what I have come to learn as "Catching the DNA" of an organization. This transformation is not something that happens quickly, but once it takes root, it tugs at your heartstrings in a way that you can't ignore. It becomes an intrinsic force that compels you, from the deepest parts of your being, to honour and respect every department, every role, and every individual within the organization. You begin to understand the sacrifices made by those who laid the groundwork - those who built and pioneered, that they deserve your utmost respect. My hope for everyone is to someday work in organizations where this sense of purpose is felt so deeply, because when that happens, it becomes a source of life. When that happens, it's more than just work - it becomes life-giving. Vision is a very powerful agency: Its a force that moves the heart toward its destiny, unseen YET unmistakable! #Vision #VisionBoard #Lifesgoals #MondayMotivation

Back in 2018/19, I was trying to make sense of my work. I was coming out of a long term relationship, having recently split from the company I'd co-founded and we'd sold the year before. I knew the old work wasn't the direction I wanted to travel, but the new hadn't yet clarified. I was curious about merging two ideas: nature and business. So I did what I often do and looked to buy a domain name as a foothold for future experiments. I happened across 'the nature of business' - or similar. And found someone far ahead of me on this very path. Giles Hutchins Every now and then I come across books which make sense of my own disparate ideas and thinking; books which tie it all together. As with Jeremy Lent, Giles' books do this for me. And this book, Nature Works, the same. We live in testing times. People stuck in work they don't enjoy for companies they don't respect. Companies wedded to ideas and locked into patterns on the wane. A need to shift and evolve the minds, the thinking, the consciousness which shapes the world we're in. The need to breathe new life into work, creating regenerative work and companies. All Giles' books and teachings do this. They're a waymarker for way finders. Nature Works the same. The title says it all: nature works. Read it. Enjoy it. And grow into a new paradigm of work and thinking. I can't recommend it enough. #natureworks #nature #natureofbusiness #personalgrowth #regenerativeleadership #regenerativethinking #regenerative #regenerativebusiness #leadership #work #learning

In this book, Chris Argyris introduces readers to the defensive patterns that can permeate organizations. The book dives deep into potentially changing ingrained behaviors and mindsets—making it a challenging read, especially if your foundational understanding of culture is grounded in Schein’s organizational model. The perspectives of Argyris and Schein are both complementary and divergent in certain areas. There is often a persistent gap between espoused theories (what we say we value) and theories-in-use (how we actually behave). Human behavior is complex, and there is much more to explore in this space. #OrganizationalLearning #CultureChange #BookRecommendations
