An interesting article to share, about Chablis's growth in the U.S. market, capturing a fascinating trend—especially notable given the overall downturn in global wine sales. Despite the main reason of Burgundy trend, with a shift in young consumers' eating habits toward healthier patterns, many are now enjoying more white meat (even myself eating more white meat and fish than red meat now) —and naturally, more white wine too! Chablis stands out as a fantastic choice, perfectly aligned with the Burgundy trend but offering exceptional value for money. Even Grand Cru wines come at surprisingly affordable prices. Quality without compromise😊 #winetrend #chablis #burgundy #frenchwine #wineindustry

A DEEPER DIVE INTO WINE TRENDS - IT'S NOT JUST THE USA. 🍷 “No matter what you look at, it’s not great,” says Brager. “But at the same time, I feel like when you say that the industry is down, people jump to the conclusion that everyone’s doing terrible. That’s also not the case.” Some facts from the full article: - NIQ off-premise scan data of wine sales in the U.S. for the 52 weeks ending May 4, 2024, show a relatively flat market, with wine down 0.5 percent by dollar sales and 3.3 percent by volume. - In the first quarter of 2024, dollars increased 0.4 percent and volume declined 2.1 percent compared to the same period the previous year. - Wines under $12 performed worst, continuing the entry-level segment’s downward trend - Sales increased slightly for those in the $35 to $39.99 and $45 to $49.99 ranges. - Brager sees the most strength and stability in the $11 to $25 price category. https://lnkd.in/dDEdskKx #wine #wineindustry #trends #hospitalityindustry

🇩🇪 German Wine Woes: Consumption Slump or Preference Shift? Despite Germany historically resisting declining consumption trends in Europe, the German wine industry experienced a significant downturn in 2023, marking an end to the era of stable wine consumption in the country. The decline was double that of the previous decade, with supermarket sales of wine, particularly premium wines priced above 8 to 10€, notably decreasing. While there was initially hope for a shift towards buying better and more expensive wines, this trend seems to have stalled. Consumer preferences are evolving, with increased interest in sparkling wines and a growing demand for sustainability. However, economic turbulence has led to a focus on price discussions rather than sustainability and enjoyment culture. Despite these challenges, there is still potential for success in the German wine market through effective brand management and adaptation to changing consumer behaviours. ... "Consumers have always been uncomfortable with the close association between the wine producers and those that rate their wines. This is an unregulated industry. Numerous rumours have circulated over the years about doors to producers being closed, or favours not extended, to those who have rated their wines poorly. However, there are other potential conflicts of interest. Wines are sold on the basis of their ratings. For sales emails, the highest ratings with the most profuse praise by critics are often cited at the top, or exclusively. In effect, higher scores enable wine critics to increase their exposure as they are referenced by global wine merchants in communication to their client bases. Such notoriety leads to greater followers on social media and subscriptions for their bespoke rating services. In many ways, wine critics are de-incentivised to be critical." #wine #wineinvestment #wineinvestments #bordeaux #bordeauxenprimeur #EnPrimeur #bdx23 #bdx2023 #finewine #finewineinvestment

Why aren't we talking (enough) about Pinot Noir? 🍷🍷 There's something elusive about this finicky, think skinned grape that'll either win you over in the first interaction or tease you for a while before you fall for its nuanced wines. The great deal of care and skill needed to make Pinot Noir perform is what makes it one of the most talked about grapes too. It could be sometimes watery with sharp acidity to being intensively perfumed and elegant, depending on the region and treatment it is subject to. While Pinot's holy grail, Burgundy, can burn make a serious dent to your savings account, it's a positive development that other countries have taken it on themselves to make quality wines from the grape - Germany, USA (Oregon), NZ (Central Otago) and even Casablanca and San Antonio valleys in Chile. Great Pinots selected from the right mix of region and wine producer and when stored well, will unveil themselves in the most seductive way. Plus, it's a great wine to be enjoyed on its own or when paired with a nice cheese and charcuterie board or even a pizza! Even with this, I am surprised why we aren't talking enough about this wine in India. Importers and industry friends, please take note! I'm happy to spread the gospel in case you need a messenger! Having lived in Bourgogne, I promise I'll talk straight from the heart. 😀 If you are already excited, go and cool down a nice bottle of Pinot in the fridge and pamper yourself for a midweek treat. Often, exclusive and private label brands have preferential placement in stores, with retailers highlighting this with information such as “winery direct” or “sourced & certified wines,” etc. The origin of the opportunity lies in the fact that some wine producers, with stocks of excellent unsold wines, are willing to offer them at attractive prices. This allows retailers to acquire high-quality products with significant profit margins, while still keeping prices competitive for the end consumer. #retailers #wine #wineindustry #exclusivelabels #privatelabels #miami #usa #toralwinesandspirits #tailormade #authenticallymiami https://lnkd.in/ef4M8zqQ
