🎵 Name That Finish Line Tune 🎵 Firstly a massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far on my London Marathon challenge and journey - I’m blown away by how well my page has raised to date🙏 Let’s see if we can make the two week lead in to taking on 26.2 miles around london a bit fun and bolster the money that can be raised for the brilliant GOSH. Right here we go: Specified Contracts Ltd https://lnkd.in/e3c2BRw5 have donated the latest I Pad to enable this little bit of fun to take place - a massive thank you to Specified for your kindness🫶 For a £10 sponsor and the choice of the song that you would like to add to a playlist that will be created for the entire run leading up to the day by all who take part, you could win the IPad. At the start line I will press the shuffle all button on the playlist and it will randomly play out the list. The proposed tune that is playing when I do the screen recording as I cross the finish line will win the I Pad. The average song is 3 minutes so we are looking for 20 songs per hour and I hope for no more than 5hrs:30mins. So that’s a total of 110 songs or participants proposing their songs - but if there’s more then that is fine so donate away and let see what we can do for GOSH. All you need to do is put your name in the below Enthuse link and where it says message, the name of your song (an i tunes link is even easier for me to add). Food insecurity is a growing concern across Pinellas County. We are honored to work with Daystar Life Center, Inc. through our #projecttryton initiative. According to Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap 2020 study, which used data from 2018: Pinellas County: - Food insecurity rate: 12.2% (124,430 people) - Child food insecurity rate: 19.1% (38,080 children) Hillsborough County: - Food insecurity rate: 12.6% (178,820 people) - Child food insecurity rate: 19.5% (61,600 children) It's important to note that these numbers are from before the COVID-19 pandemic, which likely exacerbated food insecurity in these counties and across the United States. Feeding America projected that the overall food insecurity rate for the United States could have reached up to 15.6% in 2020 due to the economic impact of the pandemic. #endhunger

Today is #ClinicalTrialsDay. In a world where more and more information are, presumably, obtained through all sorts of tech solutions, #machinelearning, #bigdata #AI, there is still a need for "old fashion" trials. I have seen several times before where data driven analysis do actually produce interesting hypotheses, but how can we trust them? Clinical trials quantifies the #scientific procedure that is needed to find out IF there actaually is a real effect or just a coincidence. Good clinical trials also requires good data handling, data manipulation, analysis plans, procedures for analysis and reporting. #statistics #science

Did you know that Children’s hospices rely on grants and charitable donations to provide vital services to children and their families - from play to medical care, to respite care and advocacy? Without services such as these provided to my family and our daughter, I don’t know how we would have coped during her short life. Community NHS support is a postcode lottery with long waiting lists, so the closure of a children’s hospice should worry everyone - even if you’re fortunate enough to never need one. What can you do? ✅ Support your local hospice by taking part in fundraisers, volunteering or donating. £40 provides an hour of nursing care ✅ Follow and support charities like Together for Short Lives, which further supports families of children with life-limiting conditions (for example, we were gifted a mini break to make memories and received the Butterfly Fund to assist with funeral costs) ✅ Write to your MP and sign petitions to ensure vital services aren’t lost and vulnerable children can live their lives with dignity and care.

In recognition of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, we reflect on the impactful session, "Comfort Care, Hospice, and End-of-Life Considerations in FTD," from the AFTD 2023 Education Conference. Utter Sadness 11/13/24 The Montefiore family is mourning the passing of a beautiful boy, Mark Shaparin, son of our Director of Pain and Vice Chair of Business Affairs for the Dept of Anesthesia due to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy or SUDEP. This condition affects 1/1000 people with epilepsy, claims 3,000 lives per year, and is the leading cause of death in epilepsy. The sudden death is believed to be related to cardiac dysfunction (prolonged QT), and/or respiratory depression (laryngospasm and amygdala activation leading to apnea), and/or autonomic nervous dysfunction, and/or brain dysfunction during seizure; however, the exact mechanism is unclear. Most studies have focused on p-glycoprotein, catecholamines, potassium channels, and the renin-angiotensin system, all of which affect cardiac and respiratory function.
