Customers don't want to spend time on your website 😯 (Sorry if you've been classing those 30 minute sessions as highly engaged users.) There's a big difference between an engaged audience, and a group of users in a lengthy battle to complete their end goal. Long session times can be a positive sign of engagement, but for online services and transactions it can signal possible pain points in your user flows. If your session times for key journeys are unusually high or not converting, ask yourself… ➡ What does a good session time look like for this type of journey? ➡ Do users need to give too much information or complete unnecessary steps? ➡ Does the content match the user expectations? ➡ Could page load speeds be hindering the process? ➡ What do real users think about this experience? Sometimes the answer to understanding a customer journey is as simple as attempting to complete it yourself.

It took me a while to understand this. When I first delved into Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO), I believed success was a result of just driving more traffic. You OPTIMIZE EXPERIENCES and ENGAGE USERS. It wasn't until years later that I truly grasped this profound difference. But once I did, I began to see CRO not as a mere numbers game, but as a strategy to enhance user satisfaction and boost conversions. Here are the most significant lessons I've learned from my experience: 1. Identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Defining what constitutes a conversion for your business is crucial. Whether it's purchases, sign-ups, or downloads, knowing your KPIs sets the direction for your optimization efforts. 2. Analyze User Behavior Understanding how visitors interact with your site is key. By identifying barriers to conversion, you can make data-driven decisions that improve user experience and engagement. 3. Test and Iterate Implement changes based on insights and test their effectiveness through A/B testing. Constant iteration ensures that your strategies are always aligned with user needs and business goals. 4. Focus on Existing Traffic Optimizing the experience for your current visitors can yield significant results. Rather than solely acquiring new visitors, enhancing the journey for existing ones can improve overall conversion rates and customer satisfaction. 5. Enhance User Experience A seamless and enjoyable user experience is at the heart of CRO. From intuitive navigation to fast load times, every detail matters in guiding users towards the desired action. 6. Personalize Engagement Tailoring your approach to meet individual user needs can boost conversions. Personalized content, offers, and interactions make users feel valued and more likely to convert. CRO is not just about tweaking a website but about understanding and improving the user's journey. By focusing on user-centric strategies, you can achieve better conversions and build lasting relationships with your audience. Let's optimize not just for numbers, but for meaningful user experiences.

5moThis is super interesting. It underlines that when we are clearer and more open with users, rather than trying to trick them into engaging, we get more of the right kind of engagement.
