Celebrating International Literacy Day: Confronting Learning Poverty in Challenging Geographies On this #InternationalLiteracyDay, we reflect on the global issue of learning poverty, a challenge affecting millions of children worldwide. Defined by the World Bank as the inability to read and understand a simple text by the age of 10, learning poverty is a stark reality for 55% of children in India at the late primary stage. This issue is even more pronounced in difficult geographies like Sukma, where conflict and access barriers exacerbate educational inequities. Globally, more than 60% of children in Grade 3 are below the foundational literacy and numeracy standards. Additionally, 35% of children are taught in a language they do not speak, further hindering their educational progress. At Shiksharth, we are proud to share our key success stories from the Learning Lab program. This initiative incorporates multilingual education and personalized learning opportunities, addressing the unique challenges of multigrade, multilevel classrooms. Through these efforts, we've seen significant improvements in reading, writing, and language understanding in our classrooms. We've also empowered teachers through targeted training and engaged parents in their children's education, fostering a supportive community around learning. This Literacy Day, we are grateful for the support that has made this progress possible. Every child deserves the chance to succeed, and we remain dedicated to making that a reality. #LearningPoverty #Shiksharth #MultilingualEducation #PersonalizedLearning Ashish Shalini Shrivastava Mohit Dev Pavan Deshmukh DURGA KUMARI Mohineesh Bhatjiwale Kaushal Kishor Gautam Jha Kunwar Akanksha Sanika Kedar Thansing Verma

On the occasion of International Literacy Day, it is important to highlight Karnataka's position in literacy rate. Karnataka has progressed with the increase in literacy rate over the years and this is reflected by the recent statistics. Yet despite all these advances, the state continues to be below the national average literacy rate. It’s an indication that more specific interventions should be done and I believe in ensuring that every child irrespective of the situation and condition must get quality education at an early age if we want to see a drastic improvement. Foundational learning within the early years will help build an everlasting bedrock concerning skills, knowledge, and a love for learning. Quality early education provides young minds with a solid platform that will help narrow the gap between regions and communities. It will also provide a sound basis for further education and positively influence the development of a more equitable and literate society

Happy International Literacy Day! On International Literacy Day, we often celebrate the ability to read and write, but literacy is so much more than that. The word "literacy" comes from the Latin "littera," meaning letter, and over time, it has evolved to signify not just reading and writing but the ability to express oneself, communicate ideas, and engage with the world in meaningful ways. In the "early years", literacy is the foundation for learning. It's not just about learning the letters, and sounds or recognizing words—it is about nurturing curiosity and fostering expression through storytelling, play, art, and conversation. These early forms of communication help children build their identities, form social connections, and develop emotional awareness, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning. As children grow, literacy becomes the gateway to empowerment, opening up collective opportunities for growth and societal engagement. It enables us to participate fully in our communities, share ideas, and advocate for ourselves and others. In India, where over 100,000 languages and dialects exist, true literacy means embracing the richness of our linguistic diversity. Yet, only a few of these languages are recognized in formal education. By supporting early literacy in children's "mother tongues", we must honor their cultural identities and create more inclusive learning environments. As we reflect on literacy today, let us expand our understanding beyond reading and writing. Let us recognize it as the ability to connect, express, and grow—starting from the early years and continuing throughout life. #InternationalLiteracyDay #EarlyYears #MotherTongue #InclusiveEducation #LiteracyForAll #LanguageDiversity #Education #brightbalgokulamfoundation #language #playforall Isha Talsania Ritu Chaubey Radhika Shukla Gomathi sangameshwaran Mausam Yagnik Shivani Sisodia Debatri Saha Sangeeta Punjabi Khushi Garg Aditi Lele Pranjali Ambekar Shaily Surana

### Breaking Barriers: Why Nationality Shouldn't Limit Educational Opportunities In today’s global classroom, where educators from India can expertly teach curriculums from Australia to the USA, why does nationality still dictate our chances at educational excellence? 🌍✨ I've witnessed firsthand how digital platforms enable teaching without borders, yet when it comes to securing opportunities with leading companies, the invisible walls of nationality emerge. Why do we let geography limit genius? #GlobalEducation is not just a concept; it's a practice that enriches our classrooms and prepares students for a borderless world. It's high time educational institutions and corporations valued knowledge over nationality, and embraced the diverse perspectives that truly global educators bring to the table. Let’s champion a future where opportunities in education and beyond are boundless. 🚀💡 #DiversityInEducation #InclusiveHiring #EducationalOpportunities #TeachingWithoutBorders
