TGI Fridays Secures Rescue Deal Amid Heavy Job Losses I'm saddened to see the iconic TGI Fridays securing a rescue deal at the cost of more than 1,000 jobs. The cherished restaurant chain will remain on UK high streets, thanks to a lifeline from Breal Capital and Calveton, but the closure of thirty-five restaurants has resulted in 1,012 redundancies. This news resonates deeply within the hospitality sector, highlighting the genuine challenges faced by casual dining establishments. While the rescue deal ensures that 51 sites will continue operations, saving nearly 2,400 jobs, the method of notification for staff redundancies is concerning. Trade union Unite reported on X that some staff found themselves locked out of their workplaces, while others received only an hour's notice for a hastily arranged video call with head office. Such abrupt communication adds a layer of emotional turmoil during what is already a distressing time for many employees. Julie McEwan, chief executive of TGI Fridays UK, expressed a mixture of optimism for the future and gratitude towards the departing employees. As the sector continues to navigate these turbulent times, the commitment from the new private equity owners offers a glimmer of hope. However, it is important that we also acknowledge and support those who have been directly affected by these sudden changes. #HospitalitySector #UKJobs #BusinessRecovery

Imagine you manage a busy restaurant and you are working on the schedule for next week. Saturday is your busiest day and you need all hands on deck, so you need to schedule everyone for that day. Just when you have the schedule finished, an employee approaches you and says she cannot work Saturdays because her religion prohibits working on Saturdays. Jackson Lewis Pay Equity group Co-Leader Andrew Maunz discusses tips for restaurants and retailers around Sabbath Day requests. #EmploymentLaw

Behind the Scenes of the Waitrose Christmas Advert: Insights from an Executive Assistant's Perspective 🔎 Like many of you, I recently watched the Waitrose Christmas advert, and beyond the heartwarming festive magic, I saw something else: a masterclass in planning, coordination, and execution. Behind every beautiful scene—from the perfectly arranged table to the seamless transitions between joyful moments—there’s a team of people working tirelessly to ensure everything runs smoothly. It reminded me so much of what we, as Executive Assistants, do every single day. ✅ Attention to Detail: Just like the creators of the advert carefully curated every frame, EAs focus on the small details that make a big difference—from scheduling meetings with precision to organizing travel itineraries that run like clockwork. 🤝 Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Collaboration is at the heart of success, whether it’s in a festive kitchen or the boardroom. As an EA, I act as the linchpin, ensuring everyone has what they need to thrive. 🎯 Strategic Planning: The advert’s ability to evoke emotion isn’t accidental. It’s the result of meticulous planning and a clear vision. Similarly, EAs ensure that executives stay on track, focused on their goals, and ready to deliver impact. This holiday season, I’m reminded of how much magic we create—not just for our teams but for the businesses and communities we serve. Just like Waitrose brought Christmas to life, we EAs bring calm, structure, and efficiency to every workspace. What’s been your biggest "executive moment" this year that felt like pulling off Christmas magic? 🎄 #ExecutiveAssistant #Leadership #Teamwork #Christmas2024 #Efficiency

Christmas party planning is in full swing: but you probably shouldn't be having one. 🔻 fewer than 1 in 10 employees would choose to have a Christmas party 📈 63% of respondents said they didn't want a festive celebration at all 💸 Almost 9 in 10 employees would rather have a bonus over a party People have woken up. They don't want meaningless, box ticking perks. They want things that are going to tangibly benefit them. Which camp do you sit in? (I'll leave a link to the findings in the comments). __________ *Note: there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a christmas party if you're also looking after your employees properly all round

Several states have banned the afterwork ritual of happy hours, and in at least 20 others, the discounted drink specials are restricted. But now, a few of those states are revisiting their bans in the hopes of luring people back downtown. One of those states is Massachusetts. Lawmakers there think it’s time to do away with a 1984 law banning discounted drink specials. An amendment introduced this summer would overturn the statewide ban, granting local governments the right to allow alcoholic beverages to be sold at a discounted price during specified time periods. The proposal passed the state Senate in July but now awaits approval from the House of Representatives and Gov. Maura Healey. Lawmakers in support of expanding happy hours laws have framed the policies as a way to revitalize downtowns that have seen less foot traffic since the pandemic as more residents and tourists stay home.
