One of the aims of the SPECAL method is to find ways to ensure that someone with dementia can experience lifelong well-being, despite their disability. And one of our 3 Golden Rules to help achieve this is ⭐️ Golden Rule No. 2 - 'Listen to the Expert (and learn from them.)' The Expert here is the person with dementia, as they are ABSOLUTE experts when it comes to the contents of their own, unique SPECAL Photograph Album. What they're telling you at any given time is highly significant ... #listentotheexpert #contenteddementia #understandingdementia #SPECALmethod #doingdementiadifferently #alzheimerssupport

🧠 Myth vs. Fact: Dementia Awareness YYC Edition 🧠 ❌ Myth: If you know someone with dementia, you don’t fit the norm ✅ Fact: Just over half of Calgarians know of someone with dementia. 🤝 Calgary might seem big, but it’s actually a pretty small place when it comes to this community. If you have a connection, you’re not the odd person out. Whether you're living with dementia or know someone who is, you share this experience with about every other person you meet in Calgary and surrounding areas. Think about that… Every. Other. Person. Looking to meet more Calgarians, like you, who are touched by it? Drop us a comment saying “LINK” and we’ll send you an exciting opportunity to find people just like YOU to connect with! #alzyyc #alzheimerawareness #alzheimersupports #alzheimerscalgary #alzheimers #knowalzheimers #alzheimerscommunity #knowdementia #dementiasupports #dementiacommunity #alzcalgarywalkandrun

A reminder that when caring for someone living with dementia, choose to be kind instead of right. 💙 Instead of using common sense, try using SPECAL sense, where we implement our third Golden Rule: Don’t Contradict. ✨ When we better understand that facts are no longer storing for the person with dementia, we can learn to humbly defer to what makes sense to them. To learn more about the SPECAL method and the counter intuitive strategies, register for our FREE part 1 & 2 class called “Helping Your Loved One Live Well With Dementia”. Our next class is tomorrow, Saturday March 2nd, held virtually from 11:30-1 PM mtn std time. You can help make living well with dementia the expectation instead of the exception! Creating a comforting and stimulating home environment for a loved one with dementia can significantly enhance their quality of life. It's crucial to select activities that align with their abilities to foster joy and minimize frustration. Engaging in creative pursuits, reminiscing, and promoting cognitive health through sensory experiences are excellent ways to bond with them. "Does he like sugar?" 👩⚕️ This simple question was asked to a carer instead of the person with dementia. It's a small question, but it speaks volumes. ✋ People with dementia deserve to be included in conversations about their preferences and choices. We must respect their dignity and engage with them directly. ✋ Let’s not allow dementia to lead to discrimination or exclusion. Every voice matters, no matter the diagnosis. ❓ Do you engage directly with those living with dementia? https://lnkd.in/eeWFA9rW #DementiaAwareness #RespectAndDignity #InclusionMatters
