Last night The Department of Public Safety along with multiple other departments and agencies had the opportunity to participate in MUSC Children’s Health Goodnight Lights Event for it's second week. We caught up with our friends at Charleston County EMS, Awendaw-McClellanville Fire Department, and Charleston County Consolidated Emergency Communications Center. This is the 5th year of Goodnight Lights, first responders position emergency vehicles around the children’s hospital and signal the lights in unison. The children in the hospital are given flashlights to shine back to say goodnight. This event occurs every Thursday leading up to Christmas. Thank you to everyone for participating in kicking off an incredible event.

It is so easy to forget you have "enough." Here on Linkedin we're all in constant pursuit of MORE. More revenue! More pipeline! More customers! Success is often measured by whoever has makes the most dollars, raises the biggest round of funding, or has the biggest exit. In the pursuit of "more," it's easy to insulate ourselves from actual suffering. It's suffering that takes us out of the pursuit of "more," brings us back to reality, and helps us remember what's most important. Serving dinner to families at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Intermountain Area, Inc. was a great reminder that I have "enough." Right here in Salt Lake City, families spend every waking hour sitting at the bedsides of their children who are fighting to overcome scary diseases and medical struggles. These families are grateful for a warm meal, a kind smile, and another day of hope. Revenue, pipeline, exits—they all matter—but they will never represent "enough." What do you do to remind yourself you have enough? (I highly recommend signing up to serve these families. I can't think of many people who need it more.)
Last week, COREnology provided a wonderful dinner for families at the Primary Children's Family Room in Salt Lake City. We love to see the smiles on our volunteers' faces! By providing a meal, they supported RMHC in easing the many day-to-day burdens faced by our guest families, allowing parents to focus on the most important thing—the well-being of their seriously ill or injured child. The Adopt-A-Meal program gives volunteer groups the opportunity to prepare or purchase meals for families staying at our Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City or our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospitals while their children receive urgent medical care. PART TWO: I urge you to: 1.) Raise Awareness: Share this message with friends, family, and community members. Awareness is the first step toward change. 2.) Hold Authorities Accountable: Demand that Wyoming County 9-1-1 and STAT Ambulance implement better strategies for EMS deployment, including the adoption of SSM principles. 3.) Reach Out for Change: Encourage local government and EMS providers to consult with experts on SSM to improve our county’s emergency response system. I am available and willing to provide guidance on implementing SSM. No family should suffer due to preventable delays in emergency medical services. Together, we can push for the changes needed to ensure the safety and well-being of all Wyoming County residents. Sincerely, Derek Kennedy Please share this!

It is only natural that we don't want to think about our own death, however we will all face it one day, and we can either be prepared or not. For your own sake, but also for your family and friends we should all take the time to think about what we would want at our death. I have seen how some family and friends have been left confused and distressed after the death of a loved one as their wishes were not clear or simply never discussed. Sadly I have also seen and experienced how this can cause awful conflict and terrible upset at a time of already deep emotional turmoil. Using this fantastic resource to either facilitate discussion or even better to document your wishes is the first step towards planning for a good death. During this Dying Matters Week I strongly encourage you to take a look at this helpful booklet and making the decision to document your wishes.
Our 'Matters to Me' booklet is here to guide you through your wishes for the end of your life and after you have died. Join us at our Cafe next week to chat about the importance of planning ahead and get a free booklet. 📅 Thursday 9 May 🕕 6:00PM - 7:30pm 📍 Royal Trinity Hospice https://lnkd.in/e3mfJg23
