Help Children Be All They Can Be by Being Lead-Free: A Collaborative Community Effort This National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, we joined forces with local leaders and public officials to raise awareness on what must be done to keep homes safe and lead-free. Did you know that People Working Cooperatively, Inc. does far more than critical home repairs? We are deeply committed to the health and safety of every family we serve. That means lead awareness, education, abatement, and prevention. Today, a client shared her story. Living in a home built in 1911, she was devastated to learn her grandniece had acute lead poisoning after a routine check-up. Referred by Cincinnati Children's’s, our PWC team stepped in. We replaced windows, repainted the exterior, and cleared outside spaces to prevent lead exposure. Through tears, the homeowner said, "You saved my baby... I’m going to volunteer and give back. I can’t thank you enough." There is no cure for lead poisoning – the damage it causes cannot be reversed BUT it can be prevented. Every child has the chance to grow up in a safe, lead-free environment.
