📢 A recent study published in PLOS ONE definitively shows the consequences of violence on women's sexual and reproductive health. Our researcher Diogo Costa and other colleague from Bielefeld University analysed data from over 3,000 German women and found a strong correlation between exposure to violence and an increased risk of abortion and miscarriage. As we gear up for #InternationalWomensDay, let's explore the transformative power of prioritising young people's sexual and reproductive health. With the Asia Pacific region being home to around two-thirds of the world's youth, the need for enhanced sexual and reproductive health services and education has never been more urgent. Reducing adolescent unintended pregnancies can lead to remarkable health and economic outcomes, but achieving this requires our collective commitment to collaboration and investment. #SRHR4ALL #IWD2024 #InvestInWomen

Adolescents sexual and reproductive health is one of the key issues that require attention across conteninet. It’s great to see results of qualitative research we have conducted with fantastic team of colleagues in Ghana and provide insights of adolescents themselves, health professionals and parents. - At the individual level, limited understanding of adolescence/puberty, desire of adolescents to belong and misperceptions about contraceptives. - At the interpersonal level, issues relating to technical capacity needs of service providers, disrespect exhibited by service providers, and parental failure were identified as influential factors. - Then at the community/societal level, we identified structural constraints and compromised social safety concerns in accessing contraceptives and services.

Today, May 28, is the International Day of Action for #WomensHealth, a reminder that there is still a lot of progress required to ensure sexual and reproductive health and rights justice for all. We are revising papers published in SRHM which can offer key insights into the progress, challenges, and practical interventions that can elevate the status of women's health. Yesterday, I attended a Community Talk organised by #VLIR-UOS on Improving Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health through a Participatory Parent-Child Communication Intervention with findings from Ugand and gathered the following takeaways an opinions: Discussion on Improving Improving adolescent sexual and reproductive health is a crucial aspect of promoting the overall well-being and development of young people. One effective approach to achieving this is through participatory caregiver-child communication. Engaging parents and caregivers in open and non-judgmental discussions about sexuality and reproductive health can have a significant impact on adolescents' knowledge, behavior, and decision-making. When young people have access to accurate information, feel supported, and can discuss their concerns or questions, they are more likely to make informed choices and engage in healthier sexual behaviors. some strategies to enhance participatory parent-child communication for adolescent sexual and reproductive health are: 1. Education and awareness 2. Creating a safe and non-judgmental environment; 3. Using diverse communication methods 4. Encouraging active participation 5. Tailoring communication to cultural and individual contexts 6. Building trust and confidentiality 7. Involving other trusted adults 8. Reinforcing positive messaging 9. Providing resources and support 10. Starting early In conclusion, by promoting participatory parent-child communication, we can create a supportive environment that equips adolescents with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions, protect their sexual health, and develop healthy relationships. #srh #srhr #adolescenthealth #globalgoals #adolescentmentalhealth #sexualhealth

I want to share our new publication, a book chapter with Professor Macleod entitled "The nexus between COVID-19 and sexual and reproductive health of adolescents: Bringing adolescents ‘home’". We are saying lets be at 'home' with adolescents as sexual beings, in the home. Sexual Reproductive Health: 79% of participants planned to practice family planning methods, up from 48%, and early marriage rates significantly decreased. Financial Independence: 88% of participants reported being able to save money, a notable rise from 18%, and 38% engaged in income-generating activities after the program. Peer Support: Over 60% of girls continued to rely on support from MK peers years after completing the program.

On World Sexual Health Day (4 September), Global Action on Men's Health will be launching a major new report on how men's sexual and reproductive health is treated in global health policy. We will be calling for an approach to policy that takes full account of all men's sexual and reproductive health needs.
