📌Did you know next week marks Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK? The theme for this year in the UK is “Movement: Moving more for our mental health”. The focus is on encouraging people to find ways to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines for the benefit of their mental wellbeing. 💡To mark this year’s awareness week THE SHELF CONVERSATION start down with Nana Gyeabour to take us on a journey of educating as on Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.). This is because according to a 2018 survey conducted by Holiday Gems (a holiday booking company), only 12% of people are completely aware and know a lot about S.A.D. This is SAD ‼️ 💡In the UK, about 3 in every 100 people experience significant winter depression according to the Royal College of Psychiatry. Another research conducted by the NHS shows that 1 in 15 people suffer from S.A.D between the months of September & April. So whilst you might be celebrating Christmas, one may be seriously battling with this condition. Or possibly whilst you might be having a great summer, one may be experiencing difficulty with this condition. Our mental health centre MindHealth Centrum Zdrowia Psychicznego in Poland has become a patron of the 18th edition of the "Faces of depression. I do not judge. I accept." campaign, which was launched in Poland on February 23, 2024, on the National Anti-Depression Day. Why is it important to talk about depression? Because mental health is the foundation of our well-being. At MindHealth, we believe that awareness and openness are key in the fight against depression. - “Mental health is the basis of human well-being. Each of us may experience mental crises, which often result in serious disorders. Awareness, openness and permitting yourself to seek professional medical and psychotherapeutic help are key to recovery”, says Paulina Imbirska-Rutka, director of the MindHealth Counseling Centre. We joined the activities of the “Faces of Depression” Foundation because we believe that the more we talk about men's depression in public space, the more it becomes a disease "like any other" that needs to be treated to be cured" - adds the director of the MindHealth Clinical Psychiatric Hospital, Dorota Wiśniewska- Szeplewicz. Emerging Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy and Plant Medicine -Understanding and working with psychotic experiences (through an IFS lens) 24th September - Free Online with Mental Health Professionals Network Whether psychosis begins during a period of life-stress, transition, or follows a psychedelic journey, we need not be afraid of these experiences if we understand that psychosis a normal human (albeit frightening) experience that provides a client a way to process beliefs about themselves and others, that have been difficult to integrate. In this session we will begin to consider the psychotic experience through the lens of Internal Family Systems Therapy. Adopting a ‘multiple mind’ lens, we embark on a journey of widening our view of the person in front of us to contain multiple parts at war with each other – some parts bringing forward a previously disowned aspect of a person’s feelings, thoughts or beliefs and another part attempting to conceal that information from both the inner and outer world. We consider how the IFS framework can help us to remain in a space of open curiosity as clinicians and tune our ears to hear what is under the metaphoric language of the parts who produce voices, visions or other non-consensual realities, so the client can begin to make meaning of their experience and come out the other side of these experiences. I have some limited availability in my private practice to see young people or adults in Bristol/South Gloucestershire. I know that right now people are struggling to find available therapists to help support themselves, or their young people, in the Bristol/South Glos area. I’ll be busting some myths about Dramatherapy soon, but to get us started, here are a few key points: ❌ Dramatherapy is the same as engaging in drama classes for confidence building and wellbeing ✔️ Dramatherapy and drama classes can feel very similar however, one key difference is that Dramatherapists are qualified mental health professionals trained to support people experiencing a range of challenges with their mental health and wellbeing. Dramatherapy sessions can take place in groups, or one to one, but they are designated therapy spaces, not classes or drop-in groups. ❌ Dramatherapy is for children ✔️Dramatherapy is for anyone, of any age, who might want to explore their personal material through creativity as well as talking. Dramatherapy theory is rooted in psychotherapy, a type of talking therapy which many people find beneficial. ❌ “I’m not creative, this isn’t for me” ✔️ You do not need to consider yourself creative to engage in Dramatherapy. It isn’t about creating something to show people, it’s about using creative devices such as imagery and story, to help you express yourself, share parts of yourself that feel beyond words, and make meaning out of your experiences… Psst, we actually do this every day without thinking!
