Hey Amazon! 👋 While browsing through your job listings, I encountered this error on your website: “Invalid job categories API response.” I was hoping to explore potential opportunities, but it seems like the job search functionality needs a little debugging. 🐛💻 Maybe it’s a sign? 😉 As someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, especially those involving backend troubleshooting and user experience improvements, I’d be glad to help make sure these issues don’t stand in the way of connecting talented candidates with Amazon. 🚀 In the meantime, I’ll keep refreshing to see if the issue resolves. 🔄 Feel free to reach out if you need a hand (or a new Software Engineer) to keep things running smoothly! 💼 #AmazonJobs #SoftwareEngineering #TechCareers #ReadyToHire #Debugging #BackendDeveloper #JobSearch #Innovation #TechCommunity #Hiring #CareerOpportunities #JobHunt #ProblemSolving #CodingLife #JoinTheTeam #EngineeringExcellence #FutureOfWork #LinkedInTech #LetsConnect

Interesting! Saw this and thought I'd share my own experience: Total compensation: Year 1: SAP --> X Year 2: SAP --> X + epsilon Year 3: Apple --> 2*X Year 4: Apple --> 2*X + epsilon Year 5: Google --> 2.3*X Year 6: Healthcare startup --> 2.5*X Year 7: Google --> 2.8*X Year 8: Google --> 2.8*X + epsilon I can definitely see a similar pattern here, to a smaller extent (apparently my negotiation skills need a bit more work!). But while job hopping can boost early career salary, it's important to be mindful of how it's perceived. Frequent moves need clear explanations to avoid the "job hopper" label. Sometimes, strategic internal moves can also lead to great advancement! P.S. Remember, it's not all about the money. My first job was the least paying, but it was one of the happiest times in my career. I enjoyed going to the office and spending time with my colleagues. Daily lunch outings and intense foosball battles were definitely highlights!
My salary as a Software Engineer from Year 1 to Year 6 Year 1 in Fintech --> Salary = X Year 2 in Fintech --> Salary = 1.04*X Year 3 in Amazon --> Salary = 2.57*X Year 4 in Amazon --> Salary = 2.85*X Year 5 in Google --> Salary = 4.28*X Year 6 in Google --> Salary = 4.71*X Can you notice a pattern here? Look closely at the numbers before I give you the answer. Biggest jumps came when I switched jobs. In the early stages of your career, you'll see better results by getting an external offer than an internal promotion. Here is some homework for you: 1. Find the value of X. 🤣 2. Do the same analysis with your salary and share it in the comments. #softwareengineering #techcareer

It's an interesting reflection. However, if we look at the hours a SW engineer puts in to make a beautiful product. They work as hard as any other discipline. I'm doing this now, it's not easy. Let's not shortcut the effort they put in debugging random errors between the FE and API or restyling the site to match the CX. It's a hard slog. For example, more than SA work which can pay 200+.
I've spoken to a few Brisbane-based software engineers working at Amazon over the past few months. They had anywhere from 4-5 years of commercial experience and are earning ~180-200k + super JUST CODING. They don't have any other responsibilities. I can't wrap my head around this. It completely skews the market, given that the average earnings for somebody with that experience is ~125-140k + super. If I represent them to a client at that salary expectation, they'll be pitted against those with ~10-15+ years of experience who probably have some technical leadership, systems design/architecture and great stakeholder engagement/communication skills. I'd like to hear from software managers about how you'd react if you received a CV of a candidate with 4-5 years of experience seeking 180-200k + super (& above). #amazon #softwarengineers #salary

Steve Huynh's 18-year journey at Amazon highlights the perseverance and strategy it takes to rise from a contract role to principal engineer, before leaving to pursue his passion full-time. 🔑 Cracked the code: After eight years of stalled promotions, Steve applied a systematic approach to meet Amazon’s granular promotion criteria, earning the principal engineer title in 2020. 🎓 Career pivot: Despite having a creative writing degree, Steve transitioned into tech by leveraging his programming knowledge and personal connections, starting as a $35-per-hour contractor. 🚀 Early success: Steve's dedication led to rapid promotions, and he consistently took on more responsibility by solving problems beyond his official role, impressing his colleagues and leadership. 📉 Career setbacks: Despite moments of burnout, demotions, and denied promotions, Steve refocused, leading critical projects like Prime Video’s live sports events and ultimately achieving his career goals. 🎥 New chapter: After building a successful YouTube tech channel during the pandemic, Steve decided to leave Amazon in 2024, pursuing content creation full-time while still cherishing his coding roots. #TechJourney #CareerGrowth #AmazonEngineer 🎯 Strategic promotions: Identified skill gaps and created a timeline of projects to fulfill Amazon’s strict promotion requirements. 🖥️ From writing to coding: His journey from creative writing major to principal engineer shows the power of career flexibility and networking. 📈 Growth mindset: Even after setbacks, Steve found new opportunities by leading high-impact engineering teams on Amazon's major live-streaming projects. 📹 Creative switch: Turned his tech knowledge into a successful YouTube channel, allowing him to step away from corporate life while continuing to impact millions. I quit Amazon after I cracked the code for promotions. It took me 14 years to become a principal engineer — here's how. https://lnkd.in/gNiUQgpS
