How do consumers actively choose premium drinks? I rarely drink cocktails these days, but when I do it is almost always at the start of a 'fancy' meal. This little treat adds to the occasion, uplifting the feel to something special and facilitating my desire for trial. When we got the results back from our latest PULSE+ report for Australia (a monthly tracker of On Premise behaviours), I noticed how much the insights aligned with my own habits: 🍸 Consumers are most likely to 'category switch' when they are actively premiumising their drink choice (44% vs 38% sticking in category and switching brands. (in my case choosing cocktails instead of beer) 🍽️ Consumers state they are most likely to choose premium drinks in formal dining restaurants (54%) or special occasions (51%). (in my case choosing cocktails at the start of a higher spend meal visit) With around 50% or 19,000+ of all licensed On Premise venues classified as restaurants, having a WITH FOOD strategy is crucial..... ......whether you are a spirit brand wanting to win the pre/post dinner cocktail occasion, a beer brand looking to grow beyond traditional drink-led occasions or a wine brand looking to optimise your offerings for the modern-day restaurant goer. #onpremise #restaurants #bars #pubs #cocktails

Why is staff training so important? A more prepared staff drives revenue. Alcoholic beverage sales are a pivotal revenue stream, often yielding higher profit margins compared to food sales. Establishments like bars, hotels, and restaurants can significantly boost their profitability by curating a diverse and appealing beverage menu that caters to a wide range of tastes and preferences. This can include offering a selection of craft beers, fine wines, and signature cocktails, possibly paired with food items to enhance the customer experience and encourage higher spending. Strategic pricing, happy hour promotions, and hosting special events such as wine tastings or mixology classes can also drive sales, attract a broader customer base, and create opportunities for upselling. By focusing on quality, variety, and strategic marketing, hospitality businesses can maximize their revenue from alcoholic beverages, making it a crucial component of their overall financial success. www.derekengles.com #wine #education #hospitality #business #learning #innovation #training #wineeducation #growth #connect #management #marketing #fyi #learn
