👀 Did you know that roughly 𝟳𝟰% 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗨 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 still ends up in landfills or incinerated? 🍌 This is a key finding in the recent report conducted by Zero Waste Europe and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC). It shows that us actors involved in #biowaste_management and the #bioeconomy still have a long way to go to capture biowaste and convert it into value-added products. However, the report also shares best practices from EU cities that have transformed their biowaste management systems and have increased their biowaste capture rate. ♻ 🌲 The cases highlight the crucial role of #transdisciplinary_collaboration between actors from different sectors for #sustainability_transitions. 💡 🙂 Several innovations for valorising biowaste and other biomass residues are available. The challenge lies in scaling them up. And, of course, the top priority is biowaste prevention in the first place. 👉🏽 You can find the report and learn more here: https://zurl.co/CXbc #foodwaste #biowastevalorization #biowastemanagement #bioeconomy #urbansustainability #sustainabilitytransitions
Together with Zero Waste Europe, we've taken an indepth look at the situation regarding the collection of bio-waste in all EU Member States, along with Norway and the UK. Far too much of it is ending up in landfills or incinerated. This could be a valuable feedstock to boost the bio-based industries, ultimately helping the EU fulfill its green goals and the green transition. Read our very important report, which describes best practices an breaks the situation down country by country in a series of fact sheets. Link in comments 👇

Celebrate America Recycles Day “On America Recycles Day (November 15), EPA recognizes the importance and impact of recycling, which has contributed to American prosperity and the protection of our environment.” — epa.gov Clean Resources has recognized the importance of recycling since the company’s inception. That’s why we designed our filtration media to be environmentally friendly and recyclable. The oil and media from our Oil-Water Separators can be repurposed for energy, converting the waste product into fuel. By participating in our free recycling program at RecycleOilSep.com, you can help us respect our natural resources and decrease landfill usage. Recycle your old units now at RecycleOilSep.com. Thank you Avfall Sverige and ISWA International Solid Waste Association for the opportunity to share what we do within #ccus #ccaas My key messages today ♻️in Europe Reuse and Recycling of products will increase - but landfilling will decrease. 💨 Wether we like it or not, fossil emissions from Waste-to-Energy will likely remain on roughly todays levels for some decades - unless we deploy WtE CCS (WACCS). 💰To reduce cost in the long run, the first projects needs to be deployed - and for that support such as the reversed auction in Sweden or the Danish support scheme is required. Important that also capture of fossil carbon from waste receives support. 🇩🇰Danmark has today the most fit-for-purpose support scheme to tackle emissions from Waste-to-Energy

🚮🍔♻️ ’Simpler Recycling’ will impact organisations with 10 or more employees - across any and all premises - from March 2025 (micro-firms have until 2027 to comply). This means all workplaces (and that is a very wide ranging category) MUST recycle plastic, paper, card, glass, metals and FOOD WASTE. A positive step helping to reduce carbon emissions from, and the cost of, waste disposal, but it’s something that we know a lot of organisations aren’t ready for. Find out what on earth this all means for you by joining this webinar on Wednesday!
A fantastic couple of days at the Net Zero North East Conference, talking to lots of proactive individuals and organisations tackling the climate crisis. genee's Managing Director Jo sat on the panel for the waste & recycling session, sharing a bit about how genee is working with partners across the region to build awareness of upcoming waste legislation for businesses large and small. 👉 On the 31st March 2025, new Simpler Recycling Legislation comes into effect for all organisations with over 10 employees. This will impact organisation's waste management systems, or require them to establish an effective waste management system if they don't already have one. Join genee, along with representatives from Net Zero North East England, WRAP, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, on the 11th December, 12.30 - 1.30pm to debunk the upcoming waste management legislation and prepare your organisation for these changes. I chatted with Michael E. Hoffman, CEO of the National Waste & Recycling Association, about his vision for NWRA as policy and regulatory issues leader, especially on EPR, landfill management and recycling perception. How do you think NWRA should approach these topics as the waste and recycling industry evolves? https://lnkd.in/eHfN7ays

Today is International E-waste Day! Proper e-waste management can reduce CO2 emissions by 93 billion kilograms every year. As technology advances, so does the volume of discarded electronics, which can have a significant impact on the environment if not handled responsibly. By correctly segregating and disposing of e-waste, we can prevent harmful chemicals from polluting ecosystems and reduce the carbon footprint of manufacturing new devices. Dispose any old electronics properly to protect the planet.
It's International #EWasteDay 😁♻️ On this day WEEE Ireland remind you that e-waste is of growing global concern and despite a rise in recycling it remains a challenge so we are asking everyone to dig deep and recycle all end-of-life devices that they can find around their home this year.
