Don’t miss this new research highlight by the Initiative in Sustainable Finance at the UZH Department of Finance on essential research by UZH's own Markus Leippold, Massimo Filippini, and Tobias Wekhof. 📚✨ Their study sheds light on a critical gap: while Swiss retail investors demonstrate high financial literacy, sustainable finance literacy (SFL) remains low—and this gap is influencing their investment choices in a big way. Why does this matter? Increasing sustainable finance literacy could unlock greater participation in sustainable investing. Dive into the details in “Sustainable Finance Literacy: A Key Factor in Green Investing.”
🌱 Sustainable Finance Literacy: A Game-Changer for Responsible Investing 📊 Exciting research from the Universität Zürich | University of Zurich and ETH Zürich reveals the power of Sustainable Finance Literacy (SFL) in shaping investment decisions! By Massimo Filippini, Markus Leippold and Tobias Wekhof Key findings: 1️⃣ Study 1: Despite high general financial literacy (Swiss households), many investors lack specific knowledge about sustainable finance. - Higher SFL correlates with increased ownership of sustainable financial products 2️⃣ Study 2: Targeted SFL education significantly impacts investment choices. - 6% increase in likelihood of investing in the most sustainable funds - Up to 50% stronger effect for investors with pre-existing green attitudes 🔑 Takeaways: - SFL is crucial for aligning investments with sustainability goals - Educational interventions can effectively boost SFL and promote sustainable investing - Clear standards and accessible information are needed to support informed decisions As ESG factors become increasingly important in finance, improving SFL is key to fostering a more sustainable financial future. Delighted to have successfully completed the Sustainable Finance Course from the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), achieving a High Pass (Distinction). This program has been an incredible opportunity to enhance my expertise in sustainable finance, merging practical experience with the latest research and global developments in areas such as: ➡️ Disruptive innovations in technology and products within sustainable finance. ➡️ Essential leadership competencies for strategically driving change in this space ➡️ Emerging trends and challenges in the current financial system. ➡️ The pivotal roles of governments, businesses, financial institutions, and DFIs, to mention a few, in promoting a sustainable global economy; and ➡️ Evolving regulations on disclosures, impact measurement, and reporting. ✅The engaging discussions from an extremely diverse network of professionals and tutors; ✅rigorous weekly exams and essay assignments across the eight modules; ✅the video pitch to investors/board members of your selected company to support your innovative sustainable finance idea(s); ✅and the creation of an ambitious personal action plan/solutions to lead a transformational change in your organization and/or sphere of influence - greatly enriched my learning experience throughout the programme. I truly enjoyed deepening my knowledge on sustainable finance and I have been particularly inspired by the concept of "Systems Thinking," which advocates for collaborative efforts across the financial system to drive sustainable capital allocation, benefiting both the environment and communities, as financial institutions alone cannot do this successfully. I look forward to applying these insights and continuing my journey in sustainable finance. #SustainableFinance #CISL

The UTS Finance Department would like to thank our Associate Adjunct Professor, Dr Laura Ryan PhD, Head of Research at Ardea Investment Management, who we welcomed back as a guest speaker in our Honours program on Friday, 26th April. Some of the #insights Laura shared with our students included: - Embrace a research-driven approach (to #investment decisions). Laura reminded our students not to shy away from challenging established narratives through rigorous #research. - Be prepared for negative outcomes by building “what-if models” and think ahead to mitigate their impact. - #Climate transition #risks are being factored into government bond pricing, highlighting the importance of #sustainable #investing strategies. Evidence for this is detailed in Laura’s paper “Climate transition risk in sovereign bond markets” published in the Global Finance Journal (Read the paper: https://lnkd.in/gdU54mUy). - Remember, all models have their flaws, but some are incredibly useful tools in navigating complex #markets and scenarios. Verify your assumptions! As Head of Research at Ardea, the goal of Laura’s role is twofold. She partners with clients to improve their intellectual property by co-authoring and implementing research on investment themes. She also partners with the Ardea portfolio construction team to develop value-added trade recommendations to drive portfolio performance and improve client outcomes. #finance #climatetransition #sustainablefinance #sustainableinvesting #investmentstrategies #modelling #communication #guestspeaker #scenarioanalysis #education #students #engagement
