🔍 Recent research has revealed that factors such as arm position can significantly impact blood pressure readings. This raises important questions not just for hypertension diagnosis but also for the accuracy of various health measurements taken at home. As patients increasingly rely on home monitoring devices for various health metrics—such as heart rate, glucose levels, and more—it’s essential to consider how measurement techniques can influence outcomes. Inconsistent practices could lead to misdiagnosis, incorrect treatment plans, and overall confusion about one’s health status. This highlights the need for standardized protocols across different measurements, both in clinical settings and for home monitoring. Are we doing enough to educate patients on proper techniques for all types of measurements? How can we leverage technology to ensure accuracy and reliability in health monitoring? Let’s discuss how we can improve the reliability of at-home health assessments and enhance patient outcomes! #HealthMonitoring #AccuracyInMeasurements #HealthcareInnovation #PatientEducation https://lnkd.in/ekte8PpH

🚨We’re back with three key time in range research findings! 🚨 As CGM use increases worldwide, research about how CGM metrics help people with diabetes and healthcare professionals is growing along with it. We’ve updated timeinrange.org’s research database with some of the latest, most compelling research that shows why metrics like time in range are imperative in diabetes management—check out the studies at https://lnkd.in/eWGm54ax. What we want to highlight 👇 - Using the AGP report can improve time in range, A1C, and time above range outcomes. Studies show that utilizing the AGP report is empowering to people with diabetes, and with more knowledge comes more empowerment to take action and become engaged in their own care. - People with Type 2 diabetes can benefit from CGM. New research suggests CGM metrics can help detect progression, reduce healthcare visits, and improve management in people with type 2. - Researchers are looking into whether CGMs might be able to help identify those at risk of type 1 diabetes and monitor progression, detect gestational diabetes earlier, and more! All of this proves what we know—it is time for time in range. Find these studies and more at https://lnkd.in/eWGm54ax. #TimeInRange #DiabetesNews

#ENDO2024 was fantastic and had the opportunity to speak about Overcoming Therapeutic Inertia. What is Therapeutic Inertia? “The failure to advance or de-intensify the treatment regimen when a patient’s therapeutic goals are not met,” https://lnkd.in/e_nTMhJT The causes are complex but it is one of the reason that only half of people living with type 2 diabetes have blood glucose levels (A1C) in the healthy range. The delay (which have been documented to be a year or two in many cases) can lead to higher risk of diabetes complications (i.e. blinders, kidney failure, amputations) What can be done? The presentation focused on how we can help our patients and what, as clinicians, we can do. Guiding patients: *Ensure an understanding that Type 2 diabetes tends to be a progressive disease (due to the loss of insulin secretion over time) and often needs additional therapy as time goes on- its to be expected. *Share in treatment decision making with clinicians; include screening fo the social determinants of health and guide towards community resources like those found at https://lnkd.in/eiwEA_N7 *Seek information and learn to be a self-manager; attend diabetes self management education services a •Use technology to evaluate personal glycemic profiles As Health care professionals- its all about TEAM! In a systematic review of what works to overcome therapeutic inertia: *The most effective interventions included other team members (beyond the physician) reaching out to patients, using standing orders for medication titration as needed, and having more frequent contact for those far from desired goal. https://lnkd.in/dx-guJ4a Learn more at https://lnkd.in/e_nTMhJT #diabetes #OTI American Diabetes Association

A recent study on DTx released by Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) on type 2 diabetes misses the mark. Here at Health Parliament, we believe its limitations paint an incomplete picture: - Limited Scope: Just 8 DTx tools and only type 2 diabetes? This ignores the vast potential of DTx solutions! - Incomplete Evaluation: Focusing only on HbA1c misses DTx's impact on lifestyle changes, a key factor in disease management. - Misleading Generalizations: Extrapolating results to the entire DTx industry is inaccurate. - DTx offers immense promise, especially in regions with limited healthcare access! Here's what we need to do to unlock its true potential: - Long-Term Studies: We need robust research comparing DTx to traditional methods over time. - Focus on Underserved Regions: Let's prioritize DTx solutions tailored to resource-constrained areas. - Collaboration is Key: Researchers, healthcare providers, and DTx developers must work together for continuous improvement. Read the complete statement below. Health Parliament’s Asia Pacific DTx Leadership Alliance is committed to responsible innovation. We advocate for rigorous, long-term studies that explore the full potential of DTx in Chronic Disease Management. Ready to learn more? In my discussion with Nick Meyer, MD we discuss the concerning trend of overusing GLP-1 receptor agonists—drugs designed for diabetes treatment—now being touted as a quick fix for weight loss. Without question there is role for these in medical treatment of diabetes and morbid obesity, but the real dilemma is in clarifying the ultimate indications! - The intense push to repurpose these medications for weight management in almost “all” cases is alarming given the serious side effect profiles that are coming to light - Also potentially alarming is the wide use in the pediatric population now approved to age 12 but being studied for approval for those 6 years and over. - Should there be pushback against industry overreach? - In this episode while acknowledging that there is a definite role for these medications in carefully selected patients, we highlight the serious risks and side effects that are somewhat glossed in a frantic rush to market GLP-1s as a quick weight loss solution. This discussion is a call to action for healthcare professionals and an eye-opener for the public, urging a critical examination of the industry’s influence on our health choices. 💡 We’re sparking a crucial debate on health, ethics, and the future of weight management. Watch now to arm yourself with knowledge and join us in questioning the status quo. Let’s demand better standards and transparency in our journey toward genuine wellness.
