💡Learn about the governance challenges with unstructured data and how to overcome those. Viral Kamdar, Data Governance Leader at Intuit, speaks with Jack Berkowitz, Chief Data Officer at Securiti, about the challenges related to people data and how it differs from financial data, the governance challenges with unstructured data, and the potential strategies to overcome those. According to Kamdar, unstructured data in isolation is not as impactful as using it in conjunction with structured data. For instance, an organization can have structured data such as information on employee tenure, stagnation, and compensation, or declining performance reviews. Similarly, it can analyze unstructured data, like negative sentiment detected in emails or recurring complaints in surveys, and combine the types of data to model employee attrition risk effectively. 👉 WATCH the interview here: https://hubs.ly/Q02_BqGZ0 You can also find this episode on our podcast page! 🎧 LISTEN here - https://hubs.ly/Q02_Bqjx0 #Leadership #DataGovernance #AIreadiness #DataManagement Did you find this post relevant? 🌟 Ever wondered how data governance and visualization work together? 🌟 In the latest episode of the Data Governance Podcast, host Nicola Askham welcomes the incredible Joe Perez ("Dr. Joe") to dive into this very topic! 🎧 Dr. Joe Perez, a seasoned data expert shares his insights on integrating data governance with data visualization. This episode is a must-listen for anyone in the data management field! Key Takeaways: Data visualization is the art and science of making complex data visually engaging and understandable. Data governance ensures data accuracy and reliability. 🤝📊 Data visualization and data governance work together like a melody and sheet music, creating a harmonious data-driven experience. Data governance practitioners provide the solid architectural framework (measurements, processes, calculations) while data visualizers inject creative expression, turning the plan into an experience that enlightens and inspires.🤝🏆 When these multiple disciplines combine their respective genius for structure and storytelling, they create an enduring master work like the Step pyramid. 🔺️ Data governance serves as the foundation, ensuring data quality, consistency, and security. This is essential for creating accurate and trustworthy visualizations. ⚖️ Listening to Dr. Perez, I was struck by his analogy of data visualization as a melody and data governance as the sheet music guiding it. It really highlights the harmony needed between the two for effective data management. His enthusiasm is contagious and makes complex topics so approachable! What are your thoughts on integrating data visualization and governance? 🤔 Have you experienced any challenges or successes in this area? Share your insights in the comments! 📝 Big thanks to Nicola and Dr. Joe Perez for this enlightening conversation! 🙌 You can catch the full episode on the Data Governance Podcast here: https://lnkd.in/ePMEz8Ub. #DataGovernance #DataVisualization #DataManagement #Collaboration #PodcastSummary

#Data is an asset of the Orgniaztion. And, as with any asset, in order to make most value out of it, Data should be properly governed. With lack of transparent ownership and clear maintenance routines, Data easily becomes a mess. Considering its prime feature - being a mean of information carrying - mess in Data leads to affectin of related business processes and misalignment of organization entities. Therefore, in order to mitigate Babilonian Embassy within the organization, its data should be properly defined and maintained across the lifecycle. In this regard, I’d like to share quite interring episode of #dataengineeringpodcast with Data Govenrnace Coach Nicola Askham (awesome job name BTW!), which provides great insights into the domain. What are your thoughts on Data Governance? Would you consider it important or it’s fine to introduce Data Slang, it gives us some cool spices 😎😉?

Drowning in data chaos? It's time to wrangle your data with Data Governance! Here's the secret: It's not about complicated frameworks, it's about practical steps taking by Humans with the help of Tools. I just listened to a fantastic episode on the Data Engineering Podcast (Tobias Macey & Nicola Askham) on Practical First Steps in Data Governance. Nicola dives into piratical steps to implement Data Governance in your organization, avoiding pitfalls and setting you up for long-term success. Here is my take for implementing a successful Data Governance in an organization: 1. Secure High-Level Support: - Executive Sponsor: Find an executive who understands the value of data governance and can advocate for your efforts. This sponsorship is crucial to garner organizational buy-in and overcome potential roadblocks. 2. Manage Expectations and Deliver Value Early: - Building a Strong Foundation Takes Time: Be realistic about the time it takes to establish a robust data governance program. - Focus on Quick Wins: Identify and deliver early wins that demonstrate the tangible benefits of data governance. This keeps stakeholders engaged and fosters ongoing support. 3. Collaboration is Key: - Engage Key Stakeholders: Involve both IT and business stakeholders early on. -- IT stakeholders understand the challenges of poor data governance firsthand and can highlight potential quick wins. -- Business stakeholders directly benefit from the improved data quality and accessibility that data governance brings. 4. Prioritize Value Over Perfection: - Focus on Value Delivery: Strive for a pragmatic approach that delivers practical value first, rather than aiming for an idealized, but potentially time-consuming, perfect solution. This iterative approach keeps the momentum going and encourages adoption. 5. Choosing the Right Data Governance Tools: - Evaluate Capabilities: Select tools that address key aspects like data cataloging, lineage tracking, access controls, and data quality monitoring. - Consider Diverse Requirements: Account for potential issues like inconsistent terminology across teams and ensure integration with your existing infrastructure and workflows. 6. Streamline Tool Adoption: - Minimize Onboarding Friction: Make onboarding data governance tools as seamless as possible. Ideally, embed them within existing workflows to minimize disruption and encourage user adoption. 7. Data Products vs. All Data: - Define Data Products: Clearly define the characteristics of data products to differentiate them from general data assets. This helps focus your efforts on the data that requires a more rigorous governance framework.
