Seven new U.S. states have passed comprehensive data privacy laws, bringing the total number of states with laws to 12. This has been a wild year for data privacy legislation in U.S. states. In the absence of any movement at the federal level on the American Data Privacy Protection Act (ADPPA), multiple states passed comprehensive data privacy laws in 2023 so far: Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas.
