Each year, the CCCAOE board gathers for its Board Retreat to strategize and plan for the next year. This year, we added a campus tour to our 3 days of work. This tour was at San Diego City College. We are energized by the fantastic hosts and guides, including Sasha Knox, Ed.D, Associate Dean of Strong Workforce and Career Education, who gave the board a comprehensive tour of many CTE programs and facilities. It was a great reminder of why we do this work. Orange County Region, we are coming to you in January 2025. WHY THIS WORK MATTERS As each college strives to meet workforce needs in the ever-changing landscape of education, CCCAOE brings stakeholders together to share best practices and advocate for excellence in career education throughout the state. Professional development is designed to help prepare members for future industry and education trends, and to improve student success and employment. CCCAOE also extends opportunities for members to strengthen their network, cultivate their knowledge, broaden their understanding of state initiatives, and develop an expertise to integrate multiple funding sources. #Careers4all #sandiegocitycollege #CTE #HigherEducation #WorkforceSuccess #educationispower #careereducation #studentsuccess #education #ProfessionalDevelopment #CommunityCollege #Educators #CollaborationforEducation #EmpoweringStudents #californiacommunitycollege #careercollaboration #SupportCCCeducation #CACommunityColleges

Teaching is a field that evolves as researchers, neuroscientists and practitioners find more effective ways to reach students. Yet far too many schools still use outdated, ineffective teaching and assessment methods. There is growing evidence that the teachers need to constantly seek more effective ways to help students learn and look for more creative and engaged ways to assess their learning. Best teachers keep learning. They believe in Peter Drucker’s words, “We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change.” If you are the one who is constantly pushing yourself to learn about new research in the field of Education… this session is for you.

📢 "Government, Opposition, regulators, representative bodies and think tanks should make greater use of student focus groups in their research and policy development." ✍ Baker Dearing Educational Trust chief executive Simon Connell wrote for a recent edition of FE Week about ImpactEd Group's report on the UTC programme, 'Powering the Engine of Opportunity'. 💬 Following the excellent contributions made by student focus groups to that report, Simon argues that young people ought to be respected as stakeholders in their own right and consulted directly on education reforms. #thinkUTC https://lnkd.in/gmvQrHzd

As a member of the UC San Diego community, I am thrilled to share and wholeheartedly support Chancellor Khosla's initiative for in empowering our undocumented students. Resilience and Inspiration: Our undocumented Tritons are relentless advocates for change. Their resilience in the face of challenges is not just commendable but also deeply inspiring. They are the embodiment of the strength and determination that characterizes our campus community. Opportunity For All Initiative: Recent developments around the O4All initiative and UC Board of Regents' decisions highlight the difficulties faced by our undocumented students. Despite hurdles in implementing Regents Policy 4407, UC San Diego’s dedication to these students remains unwavering. Expanding Opportunities: Starting Spring 2024, the University of California is set to broaden experiential learning for non-DACA, AB 540 undocumented students. UC San Diego’s Undocumented Student Services (USS) will enhance the PACE Fellowship program, ensuring more students benefit from educational and professional opportunities. PACE Fellowship Program: This flagship initiative by USS is a game-changer. It provides a comprehensive package of mentorship, professional development, and financial support to eligible students. This year, thanks to additional funding, even more students will embark on this transformative journey. Get Involved: If you know someone who could benefit from the PACE Fellowship, encourage them to apply before May 17, 2024. Also, consider becoming a mentor or a host through this program. Your involvement can make a significant difference! Collective Responsibility: Our commitment to supporting undocumented students goes beyond programs and policies. It’s about building an inclusive community where every Triton, regardless of their status, feels valued and supported. #UCSanDiego #TritonPride #OpportunityForAll #InclusiveExcellence #PACEFellowship

This week’s #AlumniThenAndNow highlight features Shavell Rodgers from the De La Salle Institute Class of 2016! Shavell went off to Chicago State University to study management and finance and now works as an operator at Durham Quality Plus! 💙What was DMSF’s impact on you? 💛 Receiving the DMSF scholarship gave me access to a high quality private school education, an amazing and supportive mentor, and a staff that really cared about me receiving not only a quality high school education, but a quality college education as well. Receiving the DMSF scholarship helped me stay focus through high school and opened my eyes up to so many amazing colleges. I learned that I could truly do anything I set my mind to do. All it takes is a little hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice. 💙For you, what does it mean to be a Murphy Scholar? 💛 Being a Murphy Scholar means that you’re not going to let the obstacles and challenges that you might face in life stand in the way of achieving your goals and dreams. Being a Murphy Scholar means that you’re going to use all of the resources and programs that are available to you to have the best high school and college experience that you could possibly have. Being a Murphy Scholar means that you’re going to give back and pay it forward to help all of the new scholars that come after you. 💙What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? 💛To never be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. It’s totally okay to approach people and put yourself in an environment that might be uncomfortable for you. It’s only going to help grow your network and open up amazing opportunities for you. Thank you for encouraging us to step outside of our comfort zones! #35YearsOfMurphyScholars #AlumniThen&Now #HighSchoolScholarship #EducationAccess
