Now that the #LSIUSA24 partnering app is open, here’s a great piece of advice for startups to consider when sending meeting requests and reaching out to investors at the event. Marta G. Zanchi, Founder and Managing Partner of Nina Capital, stresses the importance of qualifying your investors. Taking the time upfront to qualify your investors before sending meeting requests and reaching out to investors at the event, will save you time and headache in the long run. Here are some actionable takeaways that you can use at LSI USA ‘24: • Use the event to qualify investors for after the event, and future events. • Do the work upfront to understand which funds have the potential to be the best match. • When sending requests, be clear about what your company does, your stage, etc. This allows for you and the investor to be on the same page from the very beginning. • Use your meetings with investors to start a conversation and build a relationship with them after the event • Take time to listen to VCs that are sharing about their funds and investments at the event (panels and networking receptions are great places to do this). Damn, Shell is cheap as hell. Even Go.Be. a local resource for entrepreneurs gave me $2K to be in their program that is essentially identical to this one, and they don’t have it like Shell. Chase in their partnership with digitalundivided invested in me and other cohort members in the Breakthrough program: $5K and a giant check. I still have that check hanging on my wall & I felt like I was seen, because money matters to small businesses like mine. I felt seen and respected in what I was doing. The very least Shell can do is invest *money* in micro and small business owners who are still dealing with their environmental fuckshit. I can name 15 other local resources for entrepreneurs that do more for Louisiana business owners than this. Shell should give each cohort member a minimum of $5K. MINIMUM. Or do their c-level greed monsters need another yacht. I’m not going to applaud problematic corporations like Shell doing the bare minimum for tax credits and virtue signaling circle jerks for press.
