Human rights abuses remain a growing global problem, with an estimated 21.3 million people living under forced labor in 2021. Efforts to transition to a low-carbon economy could exacerbate this issue if not managed carefully. Integrating a human-rights focus into core business strategies is crucial. This annual observance marks the UN's adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, but its message resonates powerfully in today's business landscape. In our interconnected world, every business decision we make can impact human rights, whether through our supply chains, workplace practices, or community engagement. I believe that businesses play a crucial role in advancing human rights. It's not just about compliance - it's about creating workplaces where everyone feels valued, ensuring fair labor practices throughout our supply chains, and using our platforms to advocate for positive change.
