With Hurricane Helene straining FEMA's resources, we must improve our predictive intelligence and follow-through in disaster preparedness. Let's hope Hurricane "Kirk" decides to take a pass on the United States. The private sector may have something valuable to offer in situations like this, especially when providing additional resources and expertise to support public disaster response efforts more efficiently. Do you think there's potential for private companies to play a bigger role in filling these gaps? What are your thoughts?

Read our 3C Report on the impact of Hurricane Helene covering humanitarian and recovery challenges, climate effects and disinformation.
On September 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene hit Appalachian mountain communities in Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The hurricane has caused between $20 and $110 million worth of damage, with further extreme weather events expected. Large-scale infrastructure damage, disinformation, and adverse weather conditions will likely slow aid delivery and distribution by federal government agencies. FEMA should stockpile supplies, and prepare educational resources to minimize disruption from these threats to its operations. #HurricaneHelene #HurricaneMilton #USA #NorthCarolina #SouthCarolina #Virginia #Georgia #DisasterRelief #FEMA #Disinformation #OSINT #Monday https://lnkd.in/gi-2Pkp5

Among all the talk about hurricane funding, I found the attached report from Homeland Security OIG about the use of unobligated funds. [See https://lnkd.in/eBRHgDfZ. Other agencies may have excess funds that they have not returned to the Federal government. It might be something worth checking into.

There are rumors circulating about Hurricane Helene recovery efforts, including misinformation about FEMA aid eligibility, application processes, and assistance timelines. This false information can slow down recovery by causing confusion and delaying help for those in need. FEMA has set up a Rumor Control page to clarify what’s true and what’s not. Always verify information through official sources to ensure a smooth recovery process. Get the facts here: https://lnkd.in/eP9m6umF #HurricaneHelene #FEMA
