And it is a wrap ! The 2024 G7 déclaration on culture is now adopted. Its title says it all : ‘culture, common, good of humanity, common responsibility ‘. There were several important moments during the ministerial exchanges. First we heard the new Ukrainian minister for culture make a passionate plea for his country and the preservation of its identity ; ‘we are with you’ was the answer, with all leaders reaffirming their full commitment to supporting Ukraine as long as it takes. Then the leaders reaffirmed the importance of protecting and promoting cultural identities - in all their diversity and plurality. The challenges posed by artificial intelligence for the creative industries and for culture were also a topic of exchanges. The EU can be proud to have an adopted the first ever AI act. Yet as we know, le diable est dans les détails and what matters now is implementation - still so much is to be put in place . Quite a few countries of the G7 have interesting practices that were inspiring and good to discuss. Even if copyright related matters remain a sensitive issue. And if technological progress goes at a pace that no political or legislative work will ever be able to match. The culture leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to the fight against illicit trafficking of cultural property, which does so much harm and where international cooperation is key . The G7 represents about 70% of the legitimate art market and this forum is essential to enhance cooperation. To be continued.
Bravo! #nofuturewithoutculture
In its diversity and plurality indeed! A notion to be affirmed and re-affirmed at this crucial point in time.
Thank you so much for sharing this interesting news! Will look it up right away!
