New Study Alert 🚨 The Trevor Project’s latest research reveals the alarming mental health impact of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on youth. 📉 💔 More than half of U.S. states have enacted laws that directly target transgender individuals, including bathroom restrictions and bans on school sports participation. These policies send harmful messages to young people about their identities. “You now have your existence questioned. You now have to sometimes testify and justify who you are,” said Trevor Project CEO Jaymes Black in an interview with PBS News’ Ali Rogin. 👉 Black emphasized: “That is a direct hit on your mental health.” This isn’t just a political issue—it’s a human issue. We need to advocate for policies that protect and affirm LGBTQ+ youth. Every person deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported. 🌈💪 Take Action: 👉 Visit our website to learn more about how you can help protect LGBTQ+ content and support our initiatives: https://lnkd.in/g7mcCZWA 👉 Leave your comments and feedback below. While social media is often blamed for the youth mental health crisis, at times it can serve as a lifeline for LGBTQ+ youth, especially in environments where their gender or sexuality isn't accepted. In a recent Hopelab survey, over 60% of respondents reported regularly interacting with content creators, and nearly 40% feel strong parasocial support, which is linked to greater identity pride. We do need to be cautious with this, however, as parasocial relationships can easily turn unhealthy. While having an online support network is a powerful resource for many LGBTQ+ youth, building a tangible, in-person one is crucial as well. #LGBTQ #LGBTQYouth #LGBTQMentalHealth https://lnkd.in/eQfcVAbX

Did you know? LGBTQ+ Black adults are more likely to delay getting necessary medication than Black heterosexual adults. LGBTQ+ individuals are four times as likely to be victims of violence than non-LGBTQ+ individuals. Forty-one percent of transgender individuals have attempted suicide compared to 1.6% of the general population. LGBTQ+ individuals have long faced discrimination within the U.S. healthcare system. Until 1973, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders listed homosexuality as a mental illness. This “diagnosis” could cause someone to be institutionalized against their will and denied housing and employment. Fifty years later, LGBTQ+ people still feel the effects of decades of discrimination while facing new stressors. 📖 Learn more on this LGBTQ+ HEALTHCARE guide: https://lnkd.in/dhbRWPtR #Givingcompass #LGBTQ+ #Healthcare #MentalHealth #Aging #Donors

🌈 June may be over, but fostering inclusivity and diversity within the Interim community is a natural extension of our core values. Respect and Kindness: Interim respects and celebrates all gender identities, expressions, and sexual orientations. We use hope, education, peer advocacy, and empowerment to create safe spaces for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Safe spaces where identities are not disregarded, overlooked or marginalized but rather respected and celebrated. Interim provides quarterly Safe Zone training to direct care and non-direct care staff, which focuses on learning about LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, and examines prejudice, assumptions, and privilege. The goal of providing these trainings is to educate and bring awareness to the stigma that members of the LGBTQ+ community face. Welcoming Community: In order to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the community, Interim will continue to actively advocate for and listen to the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. Through this advocacy, Interim can provide culturally appropriate and inclusive care. Today, we recognize International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), established in 2004 to raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. Anti-LGBTQ+ bills perpetuate stigma, legalize discrimination, and impact mental and physical health negatively. While the LGBTQ+ community strives for acceptance and validation, their battle is longstanding. These diverse orientations have existed across cultures and generations, yet fear and lack of understanding have hindered their full inclusion in society. IDAHOBIT sheds light on LGBTQ+ realities, aiming to eliminate phobias through education and awareness. This day unites people globally, fostering solidarity and advocating for social change. Despite facing intimidation, community members persist in the fight for equality and the freedom to express love authentically. No matter what country we call home, LGBTQ+ people deserve equal rights and the ability to live safely, freely, and as their authentic selves. #IDAHOBIT #LGBTQ+ #Equality
