It was a Keeping In Touch day like no other! Took my little frog up to Manchester for 2024’s Design for Planet festival and was surrounded by 150 designers and businesses (and almost 5,000 online) asking how design can help businesses shift their purpose, products and services to regenerate the planet. Old friends and new connections. Much needed joy after the gut-wrenching early morning news. Little Leni slept through my heroes Andy Burnham and Patrick Grant, but he was awake for Tanya Popeau inspiring keynote, a cracking panel discussion between James Vaccaro, Katie (Katharine) Hill and Martyn Evans Hon FRIBA, and a mega debate of designers across the spectrum chaired by the super Nilesha Chauvet. All superbly MC’d by Kyle Soo. And we listened to Sophie Thomas talk the next day (you can catch all the talks here). https://lnkd.in/eUYVgbBN Some great write ups below from Design Week and Pete Swift and more to come from the DC team. https://lnkd.in/eKz2gtV8 https://lnkd.in/ezvSshTv Thank you to the wonderful Martyn Evans FRSA and Shelley McNulty at MMU for hosting, the partners SUEZ, Innovate UK, AFFINITY and The Guardian who make it possible, and the super duper Design Council team and Stitch for taking forward the vision into slick production. And for all the warm faces and baby cuddling arms that made my trip possible. It’s not an easy thing to do without support. Little did we know in 2021 during COP26, that the festival would still be going strong 4 years later, and with the truly global World Design Congress next year with the same theme. I love how it is galvanising, upskilling and creating connections in this growing movement of designers - those that have been pioneering it forever, and those that are keen beginners. Thank you to all those who have been involved in all of it. Onwards!
