Are you feeling overwhelmed by Slack (yes, I know you can mute channels) but still want to stay informed about what's happening in your organization? Enters n8n and a weekly automated Slack summary message. I found myself often manually going through Slack channels to find interesting information so I built this workflow with n8n to send me a nice weekly summary of Slack channels I am interested in, but where I do not necessarily need to contribute.

hi guys, on the weekend i built something i wanted and this is something really useful! Slack is the biggest distraction in my 9-5 🕓 at all times, so i built Aware - a Slack bot 🤖 Aware is your assistant 👨🏻⚕️ to get action items from threads and save them. Or summarize long running threads to share with your team. Especially useful for large teams to be more efficient with their time 🕰️ My plan with this is to make it your organization's preferred way for its employees to use Slack. So you can generate action items, summarise threads, ability to create workflows e.g schedule interval reports for your subscribed channels and much more. Right now Aware is just getting started, and I want your 🫵🏼 ideas, suggestions and more importantly pain points with Slack that you just wish didn't exist

Ah Slack. A gift and curse for productivity. Haven’t loved a lot of updates over the last little bit. I’m a creature of habit! There’s one I’ve gravitated towards though. Reminders! Its allows me to mark stuff as read and not worry about forgetting to come back to it. I know the diehard efficiency folks will say close Slack altogether if you wanna maximize productivity. There’s definitely times for that too. In the spirit of moderation I like to try to find the happy medium. How do you leverage slack (or teams) to your advantage? I've been using Slack for a little over a year now, and like to think I've gotten some good processes in place. Here's how I like to paste a hyperlink: 1. Highlight the text you want to add a hyperlink to 2. Type ctrl + k, which opens the search bar 3. Type ctrl + v to paste my hyperlink in the search bar 4. React negatively (depending on mood) 5. Type ctrl + a then Delete to delete the hyperlink from the search bar 6. Re-highlight the text I want to add a hyperlink to 7. Click ctrl + v

But seriously, I kind of hate slack 🤷♂️ I wake up bleary-eyed and pick up my phone… bunch of notifications. I start reading. I like to read, but I want to read a fair number of entries and then reply as I’m waking up more and the coffee is working. Except.. WHICH CHANNEL was that in? Sigh. I forgot to mark it, so 😡 as I wander the countless channels, trying to figure where to reply. For slack to be better - most formatting options need removed - because beautifully composed messages with nested bullets are NOT an instant message. Also - remove the ability to edit messages. You type and hit send, you own it yo… Now, because people can change their messages later, delete them from threads… now we have people taking screenshots of slack dialogs and… sending them in slack 🤦♂️😢 Email suffers none of these flaws. #meatbasedengineer

I share the frustration. Overwhelming and I have been a victim of the edit feature - first reading a plan of action and minutes later reading a totally different plan 😂 also the edit option is a problem for people like me with a spelling OCD. Without it I’d still want to correct myself using a *correction but with edit, right click -> edit -> type -> save. Too many steps. And don’t even get me started on those never ending saga style threads 😂 slack needs a built in referee that says - are we still talking about this? And automatically setup a huddle once the reply count hits x - okay team time to talk and sort it out. Give an option to email the msg once the char count goes beyond a limit. Slack - are you listening? But I ll not pretend email is better for such tasks - those nested emails are like Russian dolls - keep opening those layers.
