Shaun Adams and I have recently been capturing internally the essence of what Credit Canary is, how it works and why it exists. For the first post, we start with the why! The reality is that consumer credit is reactive. Once the loan is approved and the money is sent over...we hope the borrower doesn't get into trouble! Lenders only intervene with customers when it's too late; we often lend and forget. When things don't go to plan, practices can be inflexible and insensitive, feared by customers, and deliver poor outcomes. Data is great to help make lending decisions, but life happens. Over time, the ability of the data set used to make the initial decision degrades significantly.
