Apologies in advance – the McIntyre Family has been watching reruns of "House M.D." Chicago-area association chapter/component relations professionals: When you and your chapters share the same companies as potential sponsors, exhibitors, and advertisers, it can create friction for you, your chapter, *and* the shared corporate buyers. Friction is no bueno... symptoms include complicated situations between national/chapter orgs, corporate buyer frustration, and ultimately, less revenue. While there's no magic cream to fix that kind of friction, at my deep dive session on Tuesday, May 7th during the Association Component Exchange (CEX) event in Chicago, we'll conduct a differential diagnosis of the issues that cause this condition and develop a treatment plan to turn rivalries into revenue through national/chapter collaboration. This is great news. The WOSB/EDWOSB goals and programs have been in place for a few years. The key question is really working through the “HOW.” In addition to the certifications, HOW do WOSBs and EDWOSBs leverage their certifications to gain contracts and build their businesses? What is the step-by-step? Waiting for agency Contracting Officers to work through the Sources Sought phase and responding to those Sources Sought is good, but is only ONE of many, many strategies. What should WOSBs and EDWOSBs do to proactively engage with federal agencies for set-asides and even sole source opportunities? HOW do they leverage their certifications to attract teaming partners? What industry conferences should they attend to meet potential partners? I would love for WOSBs and EDWOSBs to ask the HOW question during conferences, workshops and other outreach events with a WOSB/EDWOSB focus. Now that Jackie Robinson-Burnett is involved, I feel confident that we will be able to get to the step-by-step, and make true progress. Thank you for your service and bringing your talents to this initiative.
